Do I need to drop the auto oil pan to get to the filter ?
Approximately how much does it cost ?
How often or when should you replace such animal ?

Thanks for all the replies.

There is a filter screen, it doesn't need to be replaced (unless the screen is damaged), but it wouldn't hurt to clean it every 30,000 or so.

Remove tranny pan (drain first), filter is right there. Unbolt filter, use brake cleaner to spray down completely (I use a magnet to pick up any small debris), and bolt back up, put pan back on, fill with fluid....Done.

This is applicable to 95-2001 Maxima's (and 3rd gen with RE4F04 (or 02) trannies.

The cost of tranny filter/screen and tranny gasket is:

31728-80X04 filter screen 18.70
31397-80x01 gasket 12.25

This is for 99 Maxima.
