Originally what happened...

Car cranks over fine, has full power to everything.... won't start.

Take it to the repair shop up the street (they are very reputable), and they say fuel pump is bad.... ok, ordered replacement.


Call a few days later...


Immobilizer is bad, need a new one.... grrr... ok, ordered that...



STILL won't start now they are saying I need a new ECU..

Should I tow it to the dealer and ask them to diagnose it.... I can't seem to find a 99 AUTO ECU ANYWHERE.... pls help. thx. I Don't want a new ecu if I don't have to...

 

You should have taken it to the dealer in the first place. There can be numerous things that are wrong with it. Have you tried running codes from the ecu, if not, you should definetly do this even before you take it to the dealer.

 

It could be that your Crank sensor is dead.Cause with mine,crank turns but won't start.Took to dealer and crank sensor was fixed.Check that out.

 

have the dealer diagnose the problem. might save you more money in the longer run... or get a new mechanic

 

Crank sensor (POS) is most likely the cause. It's located under the car on the transmissin bell housing twards the front. It looks at the flywheel for percise spark timing. If that sensor fails, you have a no start condition. Sometimes it doesn't set an error code in your ECU either.

 

With the car being a 99, I'd bet the vehicles immoblizer been triggered. Common problem with these cars. Only a dealer can reprogram the security system and keys.

This can be very difficult to diagnose for a mechanic that may not be familar with it. Alot shops rec. exactly what has happened to you, first fuel pump and then ecu.

I been through this and only a dealer can reprogram. Cost should be around $100 to fix.

Sounds like that "mechanic" doenst know what they are doing and you are paying for it.

 

Make sure the ECU connector is firmly mounted on the ECU. If it is loose, the car will not start. It's happened to me before.
