E39 5-series lights on a max

I just got done doing the r32 headlight conversion to my 4th gen max and to be honest with you I was not happy with the results. I ended up having to do alot more body work than I was expecting to make them fit and they still don't line up well. The other problem that I had was that the lights were JDM styled (used for driving on the left side of the road). So I sold those projectors and now I have bi-xenon projectors. They are awesome at night time because of the high beam HID feature, but they were alot of work to fabricate into the headlight itself. I am looking at a 70% finished conversion and having second thoughts. What do you all think of the r32 conversion. I know that it looked alot cooler in pictures that on the car. I am thinking since I have to do all this work to my car to get them properly installed, why not go all the way and fabricate the 2003 5-series lights with the angel eyes. They seem like they would go well with the 2nd generation 4 circle tail lights. What is everyone elses opinion on an e39 conversion??? I have found sets of the lights for $600 on ebay.

Let me know,

Max2fast

(P. S. If only custommaxima would have come out with those projectors . )

i've thought of doing this but in another way. I was going to open up my stock headlights and custom fit the lights from the BMW in them. But i have been busy and no funds to back it up.

some one who is good with photoshopping should try to put the bimmer lights on a max just to see how it would look before spending all that money .... because i was also wondering about these same lights. im just not that great at photoshopping.

I've seen his car in person.

The lights look pretty good from a little distance away, but the fit isnt so great up close. A good body shop could fix them right up. But that costs $$

Now his dashboard is another story...

thumbsup for a DYI project... This is more of a worth while read than those other "what should my next mod be" threads.

Some daytime pics would be great.

Well here is my reply to Kashoggio. In case you haven't noticed ... I said you would have to "bear with me" because I have only had enough time to get the mods on the car. Getting esthetics is the hard part. Besides the indash tv and super cool neons in your car, all of your visual mods are made for a maxima. I am trying to do different things to my car to make it more custom. I also have to work on my car in my spare time (like I have any) and with the extra cash that I have left over (and I have less money than time). I wouldn't be so harsh on someone that is trying to do things to a maxima that haven't been done before. I think that seperates the real modders from the people who bolt on their parts. Respect your fellow Nissan Brotheren.

And to everyone else, I would like to get more daytime pics but I think that I will wait until my car is more polished before I post again. I knew that someone would have something harsh to say.

Ebay ... but i removed the outer red pieces ... seems to look better without them. They are the 2nd Generation LED tail lights.

Thanks for your info. I must say that this group have helped me find out great info for all parts of the maxi's. Im trying to locate a performance place for a Y pipe, and then look at seeing what I can do with a CAI. Fun stuff!!! I must admit though, here in Australia, we are pretty useless when it comes to having all these parts.

lol ? your kidding me right? I have only bolt on parts... I never had anything custom done to my car? Dude please let it go because you dont know what you are talking about. You posted the pics, sorry but the gap is big as hell. I am sure if you get it filled in it will look alot better but as of right now it does look nasty. If you cant take what people have to say about your car when you post pics, then dost post pics of your car. Ohh and jsut so you know your not the first one to do this "custom " lights . Someone already beaten you to that so dont be so freaking touchy.

Look i'm not here to go back and forth with you but seriously though ... why would you want to dis someone elses work? I don't know if you noticed, but everyone else seems to like where im going with the car. It is a "work in progress car". I am sure that there was never a second where your car was torn apart. I agree that my car is in bad shape right now as I am converting everything, but to say "ehhh looks horrible" is an ignorant statement. It would be one thing if you said something about you not liking where I was going with it, but saying what you said is just way out of line. Didn't your mother ever teach you that if you don't have anything good to say then don't say anything at all? Perhaps you should consider a different choice of words next time. BTW what "completely custom" mods have you done?

I looked at your homepage, but you don't have hardly any mods listed. Using cheater spray doesn't count as a completely custom mod. Having an AthlonXP 2000+ w/ 512MB DDR, 100GB IBM hard drive, geforce gfx card, windows xp, digital sound input thru USB and a 10.4" LCD is completely custom. The fact that you of all people are dissing me is surprising. You have the same gauges, head unit, and speakers as me. If you want to dis maxima owners then hang out in the 1st and 2nd gen section and dis the people with the **** carpet seat covers, dangly headliner *****, 100 spoke rims with extenders, and skull shifters. That seems like a more likely target. And as for my lights ... I haven't seen anyone put bi-xenon projectors in the r32 headlight housings. I think its about time that you know your role and back down.

my role? Ohh did I hurt your feeling by saying that your headlights were ugly? Do you want to cry? You should quit your *****in about how people are bashing your car because you put yourself out there. You posted pics , people will comment , I dont think your car is ugly but the way the lights fit are. So sorry

back to topic attempt #1:

what are you going to put in for corner lights? I don't think the stock maxima's lights will look good because it is much taller than the r32 lights.

What are your plans for that?

Well I looked into stock r32 corners, but they don't make clear outs for that model. Plus they are kind of ugly. I think that I will have to do the Maxima factory corners. What I am going to do to try to offset the difference in shape is put a strip of maybe carbon fiber beneath and above the lights. Either that or my second option would be to fiberglass the hood down to the lights and make them flush with the bumper. My preference right now would be to do carbon fiber above and below. This I think will look classier and be less work. I can even try to mold the carbon fiber onto the light housing itself. (Sounds even better now that I think about it!) Anyways, good night for tonight.

I'd have to say, interesting interior man. I like how you put in the computer system with the huge screen. Is the screen a touch screen by any chance? It must be nice to not have to lug in your laptop just to use the earthmate gps. good job.

Well I definitely have to agree with you about my interior being interesting. LOL. It needs some TLC. I am about to upgrade to the USB earthmate because it has a quicker response time and a more accurate position. To answer your question about the touch screen, I did have a touch screen that was awesome at night, but too much glare in the daytime. Whenever the sun would reflect off of the surface, the glare would be so bad that you couldn't even see the screen. So needles to say I took it off. If anyone wants it I will sell it for $50 (retails for $120). Its a 10.4" four wire resistive touch. Anywho, off to school.

Ok, I have changed my mind on the R32 lights. I just did a rough photoshop of what my car would look like with the e39 headlights and grille and I have proudly accepted the challenge! Doesn't this look phat?! It will be alot of hood work, but I think the results will be amazing!

Let me know what you think,
