A friend of mine once said that you can't measure the value of a good woman by the ammount of time or money that you spend on her. Well, you sure can measure a car that way. How much money have you spent on your car? Another friend calls it "Chasing the dragon". How much money have you spent, Chasing the dragon?

I've spent around $8k, and it's about halfway to where I want it.
However, some people might have less modded maximas because they pay too much for mods while other people might get a lot of stuff free or huge discounts.

Repairs also. Knock sensors, and etc make a slight diff in the performance and drivability of your car. But I guess on a forum like this I should restrict it to mods, and ask a moderator to change the poll.

I'm just fishing to see if people are actually serious about spending as much in mods as they do for the car. It boggles me sometimes, because people are talking big bucks here. Ya know... $8k for you... $2-5k for paint job, $3-5k SC, $1.2k MEVI, etc etc... that all equals about 1 or 2 yrs at NCSU for me.

2) All around tints 25% with lifetime warranty = $200.00

3) Rewired fogs so wire splice-connectors = $2.00

4) FSTB from E-bay = $45.00 shipped

Question, all those that spent over 5k.. What would happen when its time to sell and you only get 8k including your mods in that price?

Only way I would see getting some money back is parting out, but some dont do that from what ive been seeing here.

ok now i have to retype this so it will be shorter than before but a car is like your woman, when u spend money on your woman do you worry about her trade in value? nope, when she ****es you off you just get rid of her. My car is my other woman thats why her name is Mistress. Hoever since I have about 15 grand invested in my Mistress she will be around forever. My garage will just get a little bigger to make room for the next addition.

I'm talking about over 4k with the rims, mods, laughing gas, maintainance, and this is before I blew my engine, now I'v already spent like 1500 while the car is just sitting there.

Throw in a built engine and new paint and you're well over $15k without basic mods or stereo.
thats BS slammed, there are no rims worth 3500 that can fit on a maxima or look good on a maxima (speaking of 21" + and spinners)

This mad max has not a whole lotta but is obessed with spending money on the car. My girlfriend says that i spend more money on the car than on anything else. Oh well...

So far i've spent about $3601.59 (roughly).
Damn I never knew how much it was until i added it up.

i agree with you, but theres another side to this story...for me at least. the way i see it, i am either gonna spend the money on my car, or on some sort of illegal substance. while both are bad investments, i will still be able to get SOME money back from the mods later.....none from the drugs....

i really need some new hobbies

I've spent better than $11k on mods, most of which is wheels/tires, however this wasn't all "out of pocket." For instance I sold one set of wheels to pay for a new set of wheels, etc. But the gross value of what I've spent in mods on my car is over $11k. Net is probably like $8k. Repairs probably $1000, 600 or so of which was tranny rebuild. What about insureance repairs from accidents? If we include those then thats another $6k so were looking at about $20k for mods, maintenance, repairs, and insurance repairs. Plus the cost of the car.

I'm way above that, and that was just for the last version of the car. It's being redone right now to be wilder. I've probably got better than $10K in just parts sitting in my garage right now.

I think last time it was something like

$7K bodywork and paint
$2K rims
$3.5K SC
$6K stereo
$2K interior work

http://www.evolution-autodesign.com/projects/maxima.htm

And then like $5-6K in miscellaneous stuff-suspension, big brakes, lighting, polishing, nitrous, accessories. This doesn't include regular maintenence or repairs.

It's not hard to break $15K, $20K if you want to. My job is in the import industry, so the car is like a business expense for me luckily. My girlfriend's car is pushing close to $35K and that is just for what is on the car now. Not counting the previous bodywork/stereo. It adds up really fast, luckily sponsors help, and so do friends who run shops.

If you want to mod your car then work hard so you can do it. Don't sit around and complain about how you can't afford mods.

Bingo. Same here.

Meccanoble,

A set of 18" Volks racing wheels/tires will set you back around $3000. Try imagine a set of Volks in 19". And if you source a 18" Nismo LM or GT4 or even any Nismo rims would set you back $2500 for the rims alone.
It maybe not worth the price for you but there are some of us that will think otherwise.

Eric
