barely anything yay. um, new speakers all around, clear corners, red clears, new head unit, bulbs, leds, etc. under a K, but getting there. Y pipe soon, valve cover, possibly a VB, needs some rims badly (that will take the ammount up) paint eventually... nissan messed up when they resprayed it. Its a collective thing... my last car had a lot of money in it, so this one is going a little slower.

i spent 45 bucks on a k&n air filter. The other day i met up with a buddy driving his moms 97 grand prix GTP. Well it went real good and needless to say i wont be doing any HIPO modding after that race. The GTP is well maintained and is in excellent condition, i was suprised by the outcome.

i could swear "chasing the dragon" refers to heroin, you sure your friend isn't talking about money spent on that? i hear it's expensive, someone could probably go through 15 grand real quick.

i've modded my max to the tune of about 2 grand, not sure if i'm going to spend any more on it, tho.

18000? jeez!

well I've spent...
250 on 2 sets of springs
30 on gauge faces
105 on a RSB
500 on shocks
30 for fstb
30 on DC clears
5 on tailights
20 on headlight bulbs
65 on CAI
200 for sub, amp and the wires.
185 on speakers
and all this adds up to...
1420 but these numbers aren't exact. and I plan to do more~! can't wait.

No offense, but if the $18K includes only the current mods on the car, I really don't see where it could have all gone. Don't see any boost, engine build, coilovers, nice wheels, or big brakes. I mean the car looks nice, but very similar to many other maximas I've seen in the boards.

spending $$$ on mods

Well i was affraid this thread will show sooner or later...

I have learned a lesson with spending money on mods -
do it after you already retired and have nothing else better to do with your time
and $$$$$.

While you young enjoy the best of your life and drive the best car you can put your hands on.

Prime example - after spending almost $4500 on mods and maintenance
i only had few silly things to show - drop/exhaust/audio/lights etc
after i added up all those litlle things and ended up with over 4k
i promised myslef - no more money going into the bottomless piggybank.

friend of mine (22years old) invested over $16 000 into his 89 mustang GT
and car still is not done.

now for around 12k you could easy find 95-96 BMW 740iL with little over 100k
and driving around in 7 series bimmer will give you much more self satisfaction and fun than any Maxima with thousands of $$$$ invested in it.

Icy hot stunaz all the way !!!!!

thats a pretty bad example of a fun car for us "young guys" i would be thoroughly unsatisfied with a used 7 series. I would rather spend the 12k on something else...

and over all fun factor ?

if it wasn't for the military lifestyle and having to move around the world every 3 years , i will be driving 5 series BMW for sure.

now if i want to take my Maxima to Japan i'll have to fork out $2600 for their emmisions testing fees !!!

My car came stock as an auto. The cost to convert to 5-speed alone was a hunk of that $18k.

I didn't make that total figure up, I keep a spreadsheet going to keep track of what I've spent (I'm an accountant so go figure )

Hey, if you ask me, my car's a POS. I'm just fortunate enough to make good money and be able to blow a decent amount of it on my car. I have absolutely no desire to drive a bone stock car, no matter how nice it may be. Customizing a car and making it show quality is what I find fun.

$18,000 on your mods???
Dang!...your car is not even worth even half of that. That means you are upside down about $11,000 in that car! Not too cool. I think you have a sweet ride, but that is a little pricey. However, you said it best, if that is what you want to do and not drive a bone stock car...cool.

My vote would also be on the M3 rather than the 7 series. I mean, if you are looking at a 95 7 series, you could get a much newer and much faster M3 for that money.

i spent:
$30 - FTSB
$25 - clear bumpers
$189 - 7" micorvision
$120 - Pioneer DEH-P4400
$160 - PowerAcoustic car DVD player
$75 - To have them installed by Don
$450 - Viper 791XV
$50 - "thing" to enable remote start for my '99
$25 - Hyper white headlight bulbs
$40 - numerous amounts of hyper white bulbs
$210 - Red/clears from custommaxima
$400 - Subs/Amp/box, including installation
$40 - replacing subs after a few "malfunctions"
$25 - hyper white fog lights
$10 - compass
$30 - Neon sticks for interior
$31 - Pioneer interface (for sound from DVD)
$25 - converter for sub/amp to go with Bose HU

that's close to $2000.

I am not into "speed" anymore. I dropped about $4000 + on performance mods on my previous car and i really don't see the point of me spending $$ to make my car go a few seconds faster.

Right on.... I don't think I can ever go back to a BONE STOCK car, no matter how nice it was (unless it was a ferrari). Customizing, and having something that sets your apart from everyone else is what the name of the game is about, for me anyway. How boring would it be to drive around in the same blue maxima that tens of thousands of other people are driving? ughh..
Well, after this new S/C + intercooled setup is installed, im going to be around 18k+ invested to... dohhh..

These threads are always a laugh for me, because it shows me how much money I have really thrown into this car..

Just as a start, $8000 in air ride suspension alone.

$4000 in JIC, intrax, tokico, agx, koni, weapon R, ground control, sprints and strut bars.

$8000 easily in body work (repaint, 2 body kits, custom front and sides, carbon hood 3 times and carbon trunk).

Those three pieces alone are already $20,000. Let's just say there is a lot more on top of that because I haven't touched the engine portion, the wheels, the brakes, the interior or the stereo.

That's retarded.

Started modding last May and I'm in for about 7500 not including maint/repairs. Add about 2500 if you want that too.

Looking at some of the other guys/gals (are there any gals here?) on the thread makes me feel better about my addiction.

I paid 8500$ bucks for her 3 years ago. Replaced the clutch, new strutts and springs. G-force ECU, Y and B pipes. Rota slipstream wheels plus tires. Rear anti sway bar. Front Strutt tower brace. momo shift **** shortened with tan leather matching boot cover.
So clutch and install was about 800$
Strutts and springs plus install probably another 800$
Misc parts interior 100$
rear anti sway 120$
fstb 50$
G-force ECU 300$
y and B pipe 800$ including install
Rota Slipstream wheels and tires 1000$

So around 4,000$ or so.... But it runs like a brand new car and has 130k on it!

let me count:
900 - manual swap
400 - suspension
100 - gauges and gauge pod
1100 - vq35 swap and stage 2 clutch
150 - y pipe
500 - speakers, screen, headunit, subs, amp, capacitor, and ps2
225 - 17" ADR's
Maintenance - not much

so 3375 on top of what i spent on the car, which is 6100, so almost 10 g's in this car. It has every option ever made for a 98 maxima GLE, including OEM fogs, and has a 5spd mated to a '03 engine with 45k miles on it. I don't think that's bad.

Wheels- 1500
Body Kit- 700
paint & bodywork- 4000
Seats reupholstered- 1400
Stereo (Eclipse CD, sub, Infinity components, memphis amps)- 3000
SVR battery- 300
Exhaust & intake- 750
K-sports, Stillen FSTB, RSB, traction bars, ES everywhere- 2000
(Old Eibach/ Illumina/ Ben's rear mount setup- 750
B&M STS, ACT clutch (New 2k1 clutch and Fidanza flywheel in closet)- 1100

This doesn't even include the 500+ hours of my labor I have put into the car.
That's about 15,000 and I don't want to count anymore. I go outside and see the car and smile, but then come in here and get depressed. The sad part is I am about to spend another 1000 on a BBK in the next few weeks. Oh well, at least I can enjoy my car.
