1st Post, 1st questions.

Hello Everyone!

My name is Matt and I am from Horseheads, NY. I just bought my first Maxima

It's a 1997 5 spd SE Pebble Beige with 81,000 miles. I bought it for $6700, it is in VERY NICE SHAPE and I believe it has every option you could get on the SE.

My few questions hopefully you can help...

1. Do you have to run 93 octane?

2. What other Bose Decks are a direct fit in my 1997 (does a 99?)

3. What do you recommend stock trany fluid or going to redline. This car is not going to be a traffic light drag racer... But I might do a few of the basic HP booster I have read about.

4. What newer Nissan Rims are a direct bolt on to my Maxima. Specifically the new 350Z a 2002/2003 or 2004 Maxima or an Altima SE wheels?

Thanks for the help!

Matt

1. Its good for your knock sensor, yes (read the faq and do a search, check my sig)
2. What other head units would fit in the space of a bose, or u want ANOTHER bose deck?
3. Look in the "fluids" forum, and do a search
4. if they are the right size (diameter, width), they will fit

i would get another company, you can get same quality and power by buying from a "cheaper" company. check out crutchfield.com to compare, and see what u want

For the Bose question, you may want to check the "Audio and Electronics" forum. I have a '97 SE with the Bose, and am pleased with it (good quality sound, and plenty loud for my old, damaged ears). What exactly are you looking for?
For your gas, you don't have to get 93. 91 is recommended by the owner's manual. If your car runs fine on 91, then the added octane in 93 isn't needed. Contrary to what a lot of people on here think, octane does not make power, just inhibits detonation. A gas with too low of octane will produce "knock", and the knock sensor will retard the timing to prevent damage. This results in a decrease in power/mileage. Just run a quality fuel from a reputable place with the required octane rating and you'll be fine. Extra octane above the engine's requirement does not equate to more power.

Welcome aboard. Check out the FAQ's and look around. Much to learn on here. I think you'll be pretty pleased with the balance your new car delivers.
