Hate the MAX?
what are some of the things that you do not like about the 4th gen max ?
what should Nissan have done in the first place?
i personally like it the way it is.. they should have produced the red/clears as a stock option.
i am sure there's plenty of more "errors" that the max owners have found.
I'm just trying to get a new interesting thread started...

"No way for the front passenger to unlock all the doors."
hey mzmtg , technically, there is a way the front passenger can unlock the doors..
open the front passenger's door, and lock it, it'll automatically unlock all the doors.. get what i'm saying?? try it..

The rear looks like it sags.
Huge wheel gaps.
The back of the car looks goofy.
The undercarage shouldn't be as visable.
Less plastic in the interior.
Button on the remote for the windows to roll back up.
Thicker paint.
Better and cheaper service from NISSAN
Needs a stock MEVI.
And... of course more ballz and RWD!
But all said and done, i did purchase the maxima and i love it!

cant think of much but if you want to nit pick they couldve had a heated stearing wheel to go along with the seats.
Also, i always thought it would be cool if they had a coupe edition, maybe with a turbo or something. the stupid nissan pickup truck has a supercharger option, why cant their top end sedan have it.

wheel gap, mine had a pin stripe stock, reall unattractive hub caps, stock non-bose stereo sucks and broke! (volume **** refuses to work... you turn it up, it goes down, leave it alone, and a bump in the road will make it turn up, or shut off... i hate it!)

Alot to mention.
Exterior:
Huge wheel gap.
brighter lights for the corner lamps next to head lights and they shoulda made the whole thing see thru, like the headlights.
the whole turn signal should light up when lights are on.
bigger exhaust tip on SE
everything else on the exterior is sexy.
Inside:
better fuel gaugae
more luxurious looking dashboard
less plastic
little grabage thingy for passengers in the back
Engine:
few more hp
im a noob so i dont know more about that
Remote:
Roll windows back up button.
horn sounds when u lock doors.
better security system.
thats all i can think of right now

Do not like:
- Thin factory paint
- Weak factory Bose system
- Out of place antenna (Fuba/euro damnit!)
- Squarish rear, fine otherwise
- Cheapish leather
Should have done in first place but don't really matter to me:
- One-touch moonroof/sunroof (Mod available now)
- Deeper trunk
- More robust alarm (Arm chirp)
- Clears all around
- Brighter headlights!! (9004's suck ***)
- Still more power (Personal pref)

i'd say independant rear suspension would be #1 on my list, other then that, stronger 5spd trany's, more should have come with lsd, wheel gap, and def. a button to roll the windows back up or to roll all 4 down instead of just the front...but all in all its been good, no car can be perfect and as long as i can still hang with all the modded civics around here with engine swaps and a ton of money into them im happy

1. Some more effort into frame rigidity (torsion and bending) would have also helped out with Noise, Vibration, and Harshness.
2. They should not have gone with the 4X4 look.
3. All U.S. models should have had an LSD and MEVI.
4. Better paint quality would have been nice.
5. Brake pedal feel did not have to be so mushy from the factory.
6. A much less restrictive Y-pipe junction and B-pipe section would have been a nice touch.
7. A transmission cooler for the automatic and a mildly firmer valve body definitely would have been better. A beefier lock-up mechanism for the torque converter would also have worked wonders for the all around driveability.
8. Anti-rust brake rotors with nicely painted calipers would have been nice.
9. At least a minimal camber and toe adjustability for the rear beam axle would have been a nice touch.
10. Foglights for all models would have been nice.
11. Bottom mount rear speakers would have been easier to deal with for those wishing to go with aftermarket components.
12. Alloy wheels for every model would have been nice.
13. A full size spare with a deeper storage well in the trunk would also have been nice.
14. A telescoping steering wheel definitely would have aided in driver comfort.
15. Some properly contoured front seats for all models and years of the 4th gen would have been great.

Let me see.....
factory turbo
factory supercharger
factory NOS
factory uh......
Aside from the beam suspension and weak 5 speed, I think the 4th gen is a damn complete car. All the little things can be worked out pretty easily.

How bout the "cupholder" on the 95's. Yikes that is terrible.
Fog lights on all models
honeycomb "grandma" rims
Cornering lamps on 97-99
ABS standard on all models.
I like not having my alarm announce to my neighbors when i lock my car. On the 2K i immediatly turned off the honk when i got it.

They should have made the GLEs and GXEs with the SE springs ride-height, and the SEs should have a ride-height like it would with H&R springs, and come factory with a GR-2 stiffness or even Tok. Blue style struts. This way the Maxima wouldnt handle like a mini-van stock.
As someone said, the remote should allow you to roll back up the windows.
Some 97-99 GXEs had factory alloy wheels (rare), I think they should have those standard. And the SE should have had a 17 inch option.
Tranny should have been a 5speed auto.
But I think the stock maximas are good cars.

Somethings i hate about the max are obviously the red/clear option, the 4x4 (REDICULOUS), and the loose steering that the 4th gen has. The steering i hate almost as much as the 4x4, because i like a firm wheel. I drove my girlfriends ****ty 97 eclipse yesterday and i loved the way it steered. You can turn our maxs wheel with a pinky if u wanted..(exaggeration). Also i have noticed that tthe 4th gen max tends to sag in the back when you have 2 people in the backseat..wish it was a little stronger so that when you have 2 backseat passengers the car didnt look like you took the springs out.... Other than that i LOVE the 4th gen.

1. starter
2. brakes
3. stock radio/speakers
4. wheel fender displacement
5. god awful hubcaps
Things I like though:
Powerfull reliable bulletproof engine with great gas mileage.
Great entior space.
Low cost car for being used to high for new.
Modern looking as well as minimalist, this car can blend in with all the rest and still look the best.
Full of features with the comfort and convenience package, those heated mirrors and heated seats come in handy.
Hard for someone to steal, haven't seen nissan on the top stolen cars in years.

I gotta say that the screw up with the heat going on while you're driving without heat being on (same with cold) is annoying. Also, all of the parts are a pain in the *** (try cleaning your throttle plate sometime). A couple more things like those annoying orange corners and thin paint.
The wheel gap is huge. Many of the bolts and other things are just plain cheap such as those plastic bolts and nuts, crappy upholstry, and some shoddy work on some of the other parts of the car.

better design for emission control
I think they should have designed the emission control and ECU alot better. Thats why I had to sell my Maxima. I had an EVAP problem that I couldnt fix. Thats one of the reasons I got rid of my Maxima and got a car with a Diesel......

I think the 4th gen Maxima SE's are very good the way they are. However, a few things that I will add:
1) They should've made say SE-T (SE-turbo for instance). VQ with a well designed single turbo straight from the factory and this car would be a total monster.
2) Alloy wheels are nice (The SE ones of course) but the T model I mentioned above could come with say 17" six spoke wheels sort of like the 5th gen Maximas only still a little sportier look.
3) Suspension is fine the way it is (in terms of stiffness...after all it's a sedan IMO)...except maybe let it sit a little lower to eliminate the 4x4 look.
4) Something like the stillen body kit for the 4th gen. So, the T model would come with say a stillen-body-kit-look that would be I guess even more refined and would look better with a sort of "melted-in" look.
Other than that...I can't really think of anything else. Since I'm always going for the sport look (...SE-T model, remeber?) I could care less about some other things ppl have mentioned such as the paint being thicker, no squeeks inside, less plastic, thicker sheet metal for the body etc...
In the end, the SE-T model I described above would be nearly perfect IMO. And remember, it's meant to be a sedan no matter how sporty you want to make it so why give it the stiffness in suspension for instace that the M3 has? That would defeat the whole purpose of a sedan and the car would suck in my opinion.

-Hidden Anttena (like G35's)
-Standard Cd player Stock Head Unit (i think they're bigb cheap @sses for that!)
-Standard Stock 15inch Rims
-Engine is pathetic unless you mod the SHlT out of it.(only 190 common out of a 3.0L)
-Standard Stock ABS, ESP, CVTC(now is)
-Trims Ugly very cheap plastic look.
-Clear lights allround.
-Dual Exhaust Option (now is)
Can't think of anything else though there is a bunch more!

I like the car de way is...one of the best 6 cyl out there. Transmission is good, unless you beat the snot out of it,and remember after all it wasn t designed as a race car, unless you want it that way. We all want more goodies & hp in our cars, but all those goodies are expensive. If you were looking for a reliable ,spacious and quite powerful vehicle you got it in a pretty good package.
