Whats up guys. I recently tried this mod. I wired mine to the corner lamps and I forgot to unplug the battery. Anyway, my 12v touched the chassi and now my corners, parking, fogs, and tial lights don't work. ANyone know what's could ahve blew?
hmm, you have to insulate every cut wire!!!
I did this on my 95 with great success. One important hint! When you cut the wire giving power to the fog relay, 1) make sure you electrical tape the cut end, 2) cut it at least 2-3 cm away from the blue relay thingy so that you have enough to work with when you strip it and add on the 3-4 inches of new wire. 3) obviously disconnect your battery or at least pull the fuse to the fogs and what ever you are splicing the fogs into (for me the wiper relay).
hope that helps. Pictures come next week!

Is there a way to get the fogs to come on with just the parking lights and low beams and go off when I use my brights? I like the effect of the fogs going off when I flip the brights on and then going back as soon as I take the brights off. I like to flash my brights back and forth at cars who ride in the fast lane and it seems like the fogs flashing opposite the brights gets a good reaction from other drivers.

yes it can be done. the factory switch sends ground to the relay. The relay gets positive power from the low beam wire. This means they only work when the low beams are on. (low beams shut off when high beams are truned on)
you would have to take power from the parking lights to power the relay like the rewire instructs. Then wire in another relay to the low beams so when the highs are activated the fogs shut off. i know i can do it. i just dont feel like writing it all out. if you want it bad enough ill do it for you,

That's exactly what I'm looking for also since I believe that it is illegal in most states if not all to have your high beams and fogs on together. Thats the reason all manufacturers set it up that way.

If you want to wire your fogs this way because you like it... fine, but to wire it this way to avoid legal issues is silly. I doubt a cop would stop you for driving with your high beams and fogs on. He might stop you for having the high beams on and blinding him but not for ALSO having the fogs on.

ONCE BITTEN TWICE SHY! Back in I believe 1987 while driving my 1974 BMW 2002tii on rte 17 upstate NY (town called deposit) I was given a ticket for that by a state trooper along with speeding ticket. The relay was rewired by my bro-in-law who was a BMW tech at the time.
exactly, it also depends on what you're driving, what time of night it is, and quite often the color of your skin. Like today i drove 1 1/2 hrs to hopewell junction to ans speed ticket 60mph in 55 zone (sign says court cancelled due to no heat) ticket was issued while driving my BMW 740i on a sunday morning 6am on major hwy 84.
I think it's great that you have a 740i but enjoy your Max enough to visit the Org. Nissans are more reliable than any German car, with all respect where it is due.
If I ever get around to doing the foglight rewire, I think I'll do it this way...I don't ever need 300 watts of light power at the front of my car.

the BMW has almost 200,000 mls and the max has over 400,000 mls and they're both about the same cost when you do most of the work yourself

Location of plug for Fog light kit
I have a 96 GEX and bought an OEM fog light kit. The instructions that came with the kit shows a pig tail from the wire harness that plugs into the back of the fog lamps. After looking, all I found was one plug (taped to the harness with gray electrical tape) located on the left side of the engine compartment that responses to the fog light switch. Is there a separate wire harness that connects this plug to the two fog lamps? Or are there other plugs that are hidden under the tape. If so, where are they?

I did the rewire the other day... the version where the fogs are totally independent of everything...
Was fairly easy and seemed to work well...
Until I was on the interstate and had to use my horn and apparently I blew a relay or something, because my horn no longer works and my cruise control doesn't work (the switch to turn it on works, but the buttons on the steering wheel don't so I can't actually use it).
Anyone have any suggestions? How do I even know if I've actually blown a relay? Also, how can I prevent this from happening again?

, no really if you can, I'd kiss ur as$,
I hate to be a pain in the *** but I'm with goldtooth too! I would really like some more info on runnin those relays. I understand the basic concept. Just not sure which wires and relays are which for the parking lights and the low beams. If you could explain that much I might be able to figure it out.

Bumping an old thread is a much better alternative than starting a new one, as long as the old thread is the correct topic for the new post. I don't understand why people frown upon old thread bumping. A couple of days ago someone bumped up a thread I started 2.5 years ago. Doesn't bother me; it's in the Org spirit as long as it's on topic.
X, I'd be very surprised if your car had different wiring, so give it a try. You can put it back if it doesn't work.

Hmm. 4 Years later.. Cardomain goes down, and I don't have the original pictures.. If cardomain goes back up I can host them on my private server. Otherwise I'll try and find the time to update it here in the next few days.
Almost forgot to post here. I did this mod last weekend (kenji's method with the wiper relay) and it was easier than I expected. I think I did it in under an hour, including spending 15 minutes looking for my soldering iron. I didn't have wire taps and didn't want to just twist wires together so I carefully applied some solder then taped it up. I have a '99 and everything was the same as the write-up. Now my fogs are totally independent of the other lights but turn off when the key is removed. Kenji's write-up was great, thanks!
