97 SE Pumping

I just want to thank everyone here for all the helpful information that is always being posted. Anyway...I recently bought a 1997 SE with 85k on it. At almost exactly 90k my Sevice Engine Soon light comes on. So after going to get my oil changed, which was needed, the mechanic tells me he would check the code for 60dollars. I kindly pass up on this as I saw you all have posted how to manually preform this. So following the instructions, I got a 0304 and a 0707. So ok, the rear O2 sensor can wait a while, as I wouldnt be going home for a few weeks, and well I read that knock sensors should be fixed, but it is not urgent. Ok, so after getting the codes I restart the car and the SES light comes on again, just as should be described. It stays on for a day, then magically turns off. I checked to see and the bulb is not blown. I felt this was odd since I did not read it should happen.

Ok, onto the big thing. Pretty much right after all this happened...as in like a day or two...my car starts acting crazy. A very small percentage of the times, when I go to accelerate, I feel like the car completely skips first gear and I get no real response at all. Also, when I do get response, sometimes my car seems to 'pump' all the way up until say 25mph. It bucks so much, I can am literally rocking back and forth in my seat. Just today though, as I was trying to accelerate into traffic, I was at about 50mph and the car start pumping much more crazy then ever before. I was kinda scared at what was happening...and I know it was definately visible to the car behind me.

Since I know this is the place to turn, I figured you guys could help me out at what this is. I am assuming it has to do with the knock sensor, but am not sure. Again, thanks for the help.
