You know, I was just about to post this exact same thread. My mechanic was changing my oil, and I was checking under my car. My Y-pipe doesn't look like a stock y-pipe. I can't see the 3 cats, just 1 place looks like a cat but its covered over with a lot of cloth. Bought my Max with it, never noticed it. Do you think it could be a aftermarket y-pipe? Also, when I'm accelerating, I can hear a kind of metalic clanking along with my intake. Could it be a leaky y-pipe, explaining all the dirty cloth? Any help appreciated, and bump. Thanks. PS Anyone got a pic of stock y-pipe, I can compare?

sorry, didn't know how to get just the pic up there.
anyway theres the difference.
Why is there a cloth wraped around your y-pipe, is it where the flex section should be? its prob dirty from all those dirty puddles,
and dirty oil changes.

You probably have an aftermarket Y-pipe and the dirty cloth you are referring to is probably header wrap that they used. The clanking that you are hearing could be the Y-pipe making contact with exhaust hangers and other things under the car. I would make sure there was at least an inch or so of clearance between the Y-pipe and other stuff. The clanking could also be your muffler hitting stuff under there too.
