Ok gurus, the light came on after we got back from a long vacation where we put 1500 +- on the car in a week. Is this usually an indication of a bad o2 sensor or something else. Is there any way to clear codes on these cars or what. And finally, is this something that I'm gonna have to take to the dealer for and pay through the nose? Thanks guys

the rear o2 sensor, way back there, is used for an emission check but doesn't affect engine performance. they are $160ish thru the dealer for one.

Check Engine

My check engine light came on like a week ago. I brought it to a dealership ad they check the code, because the one I got wasn't not in the MAX FAQ or my chilton's. It was code P0153 - HO2S1 (i'm reading this off of the print out). The guy told me that a bad batch of gas could set it off. He reset it for me and it hasn't gone back on. Now I don't know if that solved the problem, but seems so. No charge either, but I'm still under warranty. But if the dealership is friendly, they shouldn't charge. I thought that an O2 sensor was like 60. Are they easy to replace with the car lifted up??

Re: Uhh Ohh. check engine light.

Changing the rear O2 sensor is easy, just be careful of the rusty 10mm bolts that hold the shield over the catalytic converter. The sensor is a 17mm, easily removed with an open/boxed end wrench. The plug pulls out from the body, and you will need either a very skinny flathead screwdriver or an ice-pick to unclasp the plug from the O2 sensor. The part runs anywhere from $60-130. I got mine at O'Reilly for $57. There are a couple of dealers (one in Richardson, TX) that will sell you the part for $100 if you mention that you got their number from the web. In all, it takes about a half hour to change, then you have to reset the computer (a few seconds).
