Because 5th gen VQ30 have 220 horses. I don't have the VAIS intake manifold on it so that will take away about 10 horses. But the engine redlines higher. So that is why I switched the engine. Plus I doubt that you can find a engine with 10,000 miles on a 4th generation maxima.

I know that VIAS is the reason 2k maximas made more horses. Inatke manifold is part of the VIAS system. Duh

Why not just get a 2000+ ECU and harness and change all the necessary sensors??

This thread is very interesting.....A MOD GOT OWNED!! LOL J/K

Good for you man swapping that engine into your 4th gen. Will you get any improvement in the 1/4mi or 0-60' times with the VQ30 compared to the 4th gen engine?

Nice work on the swap, but without the 2k variable intake manifold you probably don't have much if any additional power over the 95-99 190hp because that's where most of the extra power comes from.

I want to visit a Dyno. My friend also has a 1996 maxima just like mine. My car feels way more powerful than him. He only has 100,000 miles on his engine and body. I only have 96,500 on my body and about 13,000 on my engine and tranny. My car also feels light and nimble.

I want to put the 2k ECU but I don't have one. The ECU that were in my brothers white max where dead so that is why he swapped everythin from a 2k2 max.
I will try to find a dyno in my area and test it.

ummm...huh?

The main difference in power between a 95-99 and 2k engine is from the variable intake manifold. You still have your old one on which would make this engine more like a 95-99 than a 2k. So how do you go from getting eaten alive by a 2k2 6spd to "keeping up with"?

Yes. Please dyno.

Oh wait, you have an automatic still. Sorry. In that case, .

i was laughing ALL the way through...
some things were funny
some were misleading
some things need to be cleared
there are Users/Consumers and then there are Enthusiasts
so...
that 3.0 engine with auto is nowhere close to 3.5 6-spd
that 2k 3.0 with 96 intake does not digest anything but 91+ octane
guess how i know that
and you've forgotten that your 96 has not only 2000 engine/tranny, but also: 2002 front suspension member with control arms and roll bar/ steering rack; 2000 brakes/ coolant reservoir/ PS reservoir (no, really - look closer at the pictures)... what else... rear brakes are: combination of 2000 disks and 2002 calipers.

I think its time for me to change my sig

the mod was verifying the poster's claims and making sure the b.s. was cut down to a minimum. IMHO, mzmtg kept the peace and keeps this forum from going to the crapper. Props to him.

i bet you are not making more then 200HP at the crank. only reason u can beat your friends max(96 with 100k) is that he prob has not done a full tune and maintenance, and that his knock sensor is dead.
no way in hell ur auto is keeping up with a 2k2 6speed.
BS !!

he is saying that him and me did the work on it.

And I know that a 2k2 3.5 6 speed is faster. I know that it will beat my 4th gen anyday but not as badly as a stock 4th gen.
