MEVI with no ECU upgrade

Is anyone here running or ran the MEVI mod with no ECU upgrade. Does that modification alone help any, or does it just bring more low end RPM power to higher RPM power...?

I cant get the ECU upgrade because im running Nitrous, and was wondering if the MEVI is even worth getting, on nitrous and all motor without the ECU upgrade? Has anyone tryed putting a 2000-2001 manifold in a 4th gen I have one, but don't want to waste my time if not posable?

The torque you get from the nitrous will by far make up for the torque lost from the VI.

I already anwserd your question about the 5th gen manifold in another thread.....

Yeah but id like to know more of the issue of torque loss while staying all motor....i dont like to spray all the time, and want more power all motor too

You pretty much summed it up with your first statement... it moves power from mid-range to top-end. That being said, I love my MEVI. The only place I really speed is on the highway, so it fits me well.

That's the short answer. The MEVI FAQ will answer all your questions.

Why would running nitrous prevent you from running an ECU? That's like thinking a SC or TC would do the same.

Save up some extra cash, get the JWT nitrous daughterboard and go to town.

Cuz the advanced timing ones arnt good for a nitrous setup...and the JWT ones that advance your timing all motor then retard it for nitrous is cool and all but im sure very pricy...and if you ever wanted to change your shot in the future, then the ecu is no good

1. You can have the ECU upgrade and nitrous, you just have to pay to play. JWT will reprogram your nitrous set up for a larger shot for $100 once you pay the initial fee for the upgrade. This is assuming your correct that you can't change your shot with the nitrous program, I don't know that but am just taking your word for it.

2. While on the bottle the VI will be a monster even with the loss of torque. Assuming your running a 50+ shot, the gain you get from the nitrous will far outweigh the loss from the VI.

3. You could always get the VI, have JWT just extend the redline and you'll be golden

4. the 5th gen manifold is out of your relm if your concerned about the $$ for the ECU. It would be a major project with big unanswerd questions such as how do you change runners on the VI without the 5th gen ECU?

Get that to work with the rest of the car's diagnostics and you have solved one problem. Now how about hood clearance and the throttle system the 5th gen uses?
