Will the integration of a HAI & a Catback cause engine problems?

I've heard many people say that adding intakes and exhausts to Maximas can cause the "check engine" light to come on and stay on. If I installed a cheap AEM intake & a decent catback would I be knocking off several years of engine life or increasing maintenance costs?

Also, I've read most of the intake articles that I could find in these forums, and from what I've got out of it, all HAI's are pretty much the same (aside from the pop vs. tube function). If this is not true, please let me know.

I do believe that exhausts require certain specifications in order to provide the right flow, so I suppose it should be the same w/ intakes. I paid upwards of $270 for an official K&N Intake system for my S-10 pickup, but now that's wrecked so bought a Maxima & need to get a little more relatively cheap power.

What's the best catback/muffler out there for the dollar for the Maxima?

I'm loving this fine Japanese engineering & craftsmanship!

I never heard of anything of such sort. Only problem you might have is if you don't connect the connectors and plugs back in. Where ever you read this you either didn't bother reading the entire thread or the idiot posting it was on crack. For the intake just cut holes in the stock lower air box, I love it. As for the exhaust get an APEXI WS catback and a budget y-pipe...

an intake could only hurt an engine if the filter let damaging things into the engine. in reality an engine does not need a filter at all except for the fact the air has particals and debriss that would hurt it.

an exhaust can only hurt an engine if it eliminates all backpressure. as far as i understand it.

the the mods will do is increase hp, mpg, and your enjoyment. do it. you'll love it and your max will love you for it also.

oh and get a magnaflow exhaust.

you are correct. i meant, "imitation AEM intake." can't beat $50 on ebay for an intake - well we'll see when it's arrived & been installed.

youre not gonna see a huge gain from an intake and a catback.. intake will give you 5-10 hp, catback will be like 1-2 hp... if you really want power get a y pipe

I put a high flow "cat" on mine, but there wasn't a hole for the o2 sensor, and my check engine light came on. But I just got a cat that actually went to my car and then it went out. So just make sure when you get parts they are for your car and not something else.
