ok the gramar and spelling hurt my brain. do your mean "why CANT your take out the amber piece?" because on the 95-96 lights are a solid piece, and cannot be heated and sepparated like the 97+ tail lights. You need to buy clear lenses and paint them, find them premade, or get altezzas. its a bad element to the 95-96s

Any kind of modifying of the OEM 95-96 tails will look crummy... even spraypainting the amber part red looks shoddy when lit up. I imagine if you brought the taillights to an expert plastic works shop, they could cut out the amber lens part and glue in a clear replacement, but the cost would be prohibitive. This has been talked about many times in the past.

The thread starter should save his time and give up on his project right now. Unless his secret is some kind of special chemical that will eat away the color in plastic without disturbing the texture or shape! LOL

I'll do mine soon hopefully so I'll try to get some pics. I'm going to re-spray the red and amber parts candy apple red so they match as closely as possible. Then maybe a coat or 2 of smoke paint so they are darker for the whole tails and maybe the headlights too...

let us know how that goes. im especially interested in how it makes your headlights look (im trying to stealth-ify my chubby black max) Did lex4style ever say HOW he was going to do this efficient and super easy tail light mod?

I don't think he did, but that always happens when people promise something and then it ends up like ****, NOSHUA HEADERS. If he does do something nice looking then that's cool...

yea, nashua never came through. he made a set, gave them to someone, who did a before dyno, install, testing and an after dyno...and never told us the results. the 95-96 guys need a break through...

that's not true. If done right (well, i used vinyl film), it could match almost perfectly, and looks even better when lit up (it's just red, no amber or orange showing through at all). I can show you a video and pics if you want. I've had people ask me if they're OEM or if maximas had an option for red instead of amber tails because they DIDN'T look shoddy.

alright damnit, UPDATE!! haha this is a very touchy and exciting topic for those condemned with 95/96 tails (even though I doubt you'll have any good results ). So what's the deal?? What are you using? what pictures so far?? You haven't given us any "updates" or anything at all.

hey its me LEX4STYLE. my bad yall. i got in a car wreck yesterday some lady with a lincoln navigator hit me from behind. Sorry i havent done any updates. my trunk on my car wont open and pretty much the trunk bumper and lights will need to be changed. So i guess i might do a 97'-99' rear conversion.

but yeah my project was a failure. Didnt turn out right. I found some vinyl cloudy sheets of paper. IT look really nice till i try to mold it around the edges. And when that happen I started to get air bubbles. Yeah so that went down the drain. But I guess im gonna be doing a 97-99' conversion now with the money i get. Sorry again for not replying...

If you knew what you were doing in the first place the air bubbles wouldn't be a problem...

Well you obviously didn't know how to do it so why start in the first place? Like I said, if you knew how to apply the vinyl without getting bubbles I wouldn't have said that. Sorry about your accident but next time you get another one of your ideas, finish it first then post about it...

you quit because of airbubbles, or because the color? just use a heatgun for the edges. my visual instructions for applying vinyl to the tails

airbubbles aren't a problem at all... but I can't imagine having white "clears" that would allow any light to pass through the lens.

it would just be alot easier for anyone wanting to do some 95 - 96 taillight modding to just give both the inner and outer tails a nice even red clearcoat. Then the tails would look like the newer Lexus SUV, and the newer Cougar tails.

Just a thought. Or, since you screwed up your stocks, just use the heat gun, remove the vinyl and maybe try the skyline mod to them. I have never see the skyline mod on stock tails, and that might look kinda cool.

how would you do a a skyline mod to stock tails. you need altezzas with the sound portion, and you pull them open, and paint everything around the circle tails. you....cant do that to stock tails, especially 95-96s that you cant open.

a correct skyline taillight mod would be painting the outside of the lens with factory color paint + clearcoat, now how would you do this from the inside?

i think people have opened their altezzas before, and painted them from the inside.

*edit*

the original point of my post wasnt the skyline mod. he said that he should paint his STOCK tails to make them skylines. that confused me so i asked him why, then u showed up.

mind didnt go back up...as far as i know. also i could be mixing up my skyline mods its a common thing on other kind of cars to paint tails (just did my buddies for a integ, heated them, opened them, did them from the inside) i posted in haste primarily without explaining myself throroughly. kenji posted in about all my subscribed threads...driving me nuts.

no...95-96 lights just crack...solid plastic. you CAN unseal your 97+ lights by melting the glue

also i dont think my post count was touched with that incident, not that it matters, but n e ways, i think the 96 tails look decent all reded out or with the amber part reded out, its not hard to do not is it expensive
