99 LSD transmission into a 96 Maxima 5 spd

I need a new transmission and the cheapest alternatives to a new one is a used one with supposedly 30K for $900, or a rebuilt one for $1100. Since I can get a new LSD 5-speed for 1900 I'm thinking of going for that instead, since I hope that it will last far longer than the other two. My question is, besides changing the driveshaft what else needs to be done to make a 1999 Tranny with LSD fit into a 1996 5-speed manual. Also I'm just assuming the 1999 is the "best" transmission to buy for a replacement?

Thanks very much in advance.

$900 or $1900? And a 2001 would be best according to your thinking...

I'm assuming 1999 would be the best because its the last year for my model, the 2001 is an entirely different transmission, correct?

My supplier said that he can get the transmission with LSD or without, since I'm changing the driveshaft at the same time, I was going to go with the LSD version.

ivelweyz,

I think you answered a question I was going to post at some point. So, 1995-2001 manual trannies are interchangeable then, right?

I'm in the same boat as maxz32 right now, tranny shopping.

maxz32,

Do you have contact info for your "supplier?" I may be interested in contacting them.

TIA,

-K-

The 00 and 01 trans works fine in 4th gens. Finding them in VLSD is another matter.
