1156 bulbs into the corner..tailight goes out
ok, i've had an 1156 bulb in the clearance lamp for a long long time, maybe half a year, and it was bright, everything was fine for a while until my tailights went out. I took it to a body shop and they fixed it for me. i only thought that the fuse went out or something. And then it went out again like 2 days later, so i got it fixed, changed it bak to 1157, and the tailight didn't go out and everything worked normally. So my question is, how come it doesn't work anymore? I kno it's not normal for a 1156 bulb to be in there, but it still worked for many months and now it's not working, why?
The two most common types of bulbs are 1156 and 1157. 1156 are single intensity and have one "bump" on the bottom of the bulb. 1157 are dual intensity and have two "bumps" on the bottom of the bulb. 1156 are typically used for rear turns. 1157 are typically used for front turns/running lights and tail/brake lights.
If you want to use 1156 then change the harness so it's for a 1156 bulb. The wattage for the 1156 is 27W and for the 1157 is 8W/27W. Why do you want a 1156 bulb in there?
Leave the 1157 bub in there and do the mod for it
Cut the top nub off with a nail clipper. Put the bulb back in the harness, but now put the bottom nub where the top nub should go. Now it'll be nice and bright since it's going from the previous 8W to 27W (the same wattage as the 1156 bulb)

Just take a nail clipper and rip the top nub off (if you don't do this then the top nub will be in the way when you put it back in). When you put the bottom nub where the top nub goes in, it'll go in perfectly (since you removed the top nub, it won't be in the way anymore and the lower nub will now go in).
I ripped it off with a nail clipper so the back stuff under the metal nub was showing.

Quick question...Im also going thru something...Im doing the nail clipper mod for the corner lights but think of this one...If i swap my blinker socket (1156) with the cornering socket (1157)would that allow for my cornering light to be on constantly(sinces its one filament) and let my blinker be on a low watt then blink brighter???(since its a 2 filament buld) I hope you understand what im saying, If not than forget I said anything...I need some sleep or a one hitter...LOL
You can swap them, but you'll have to do a little more than just swapping. After the swap the 1156 will always be 27W, but you'll have to rewire the 1157 turning signal. Directions can be found here: http://www.vqpower.com/v2/modules.ph...howpage&pid=53
