remove the shifter trim and look to see whats blocking the shifter from moving, something may have gotten lodged in there

its usually change, or some other junk. i got this problem, would only happen when i parked on a hill the thing would slide around under your trim, and block the shifter... go ahead and fix it, pretty easy

alot of perople have this problem and as the guy up the page said it is probely something stuck and jammed it. that is what everyone eles's problem is.

and please write better topic titles. "Hey brothers" gives us no reason to click it on the link. But something like "Automatic shifter will not budge", makes us people who know the answer click it and respond. Not *****in at ya, but giving ya a helpful hint.

a lot of people do that. or try to draw attention to their question by not stating the question "mevi owners click here" instead of "I need help with mevi" or something of that sort. the title was misleading, but kinda intriguing

I had the shifter cable running to the auto tranny changed on a 1984 Laser because I could not shift. Well this is what the mechanic told me. My driveway was on a slight incline, I was parking by putting shifter in P without never using the hand brake. I guess that put stress on the cable shifter after a few years, and elongated to the point I could not shift in the right positions. Ever since I always use the parking brake, unless the parking spot is dead level.
