Try starting the car and let it idle for a few minutes. Turn it off and look (and smell) under the hood and maybe you will get lucky. Try following fuel lines from the tank to the engine and check for wet spots. Considering you say you are overwhelmed with gas hopefully it will be easy to find.

Yeah, I had that same problem. Get out of the car, and it smelled like gas. It was really bad after I closed the garage door, and all the fumes got trapped in the car. Went to the dealership and they said it was just that I was smelling some exhaust fumes. I think they were way wrong in there diagnostics, but the problem has since vanished.

Okay Miss Speed, I never heard of this on a 4-gen but from the 3-gen experiences, I'll suggest the following. If you can smell gas that bad, then it's definately a gas line leak(duh!) But from where? Well the easiest way is to take a look under your car and see if you can see an obvious leak where the gas lines run under the car(other guy's suggestion) But it could also be a rubber gas line leak from the engine compartment. In the morning before you start the car, open the hood. Then start the car and take a look at the fuel filter. From there following the gas lines to the manifold and see if you see any seepage from where the rubber lines connect to the hard gas lines.

There is also the possibilty of the rubber gas line is leaking right at the gas tank outlet/inlet for the return. But you have to remove the rear seat bottom portion to check that.

Good Luck and let us know what it is. Good research for the 4-gen guys.

Don't overfill your tank

When fueling your car, do you strive to make your tank full-full-full? This is a bad practice because it can saturate your EVAP canister and produce those unpleasant gasoline odors.
