help!!! speedometer is going crazy

on the highway or wherever if i hit a bump, it bounces to zero then usually all the way back to regular speed. but as of yesterday and mainly today, it sticks at zero and takes a little while to come back or sometimes does if i hit it. i don't know why it would do this. i checked the needle and it's on there secure. is there some sort of sensor that would cause this? no cel but i'll check for codes later. can someone please help?!?!?

oh and how could i forget?!...

i was going on an offramp and all of a sudden it felt like my car just bogged like i was hitting the brakes, only i wasn't. it basically felt like what i'd imagine would happen when you hit the limiter. this is the second time it's done this. could that be fuel filter related cuz i know i really need to change it. the poor max is very sick these days...

You have a loose wire or a loose connector somewhere. You said you only get that when going over a bump so that's what I'd look at. Take off the speedo and start there...

well, i swapped out the gauge cluster for a spare one i had and the speedo still didn't work. at first, i thought it could be the speedo head after searching, now i'm thinking speed sensor maybe?? it started doing that thing again even when i wasn't hitting bumps and was just going nuts, so maybe it's a loose or failing sensor. can someone please get me a pic of this so i can go check it. i have a chiltons but it just describes where it is generally, no real help. thanx guys

i'm gonna go also check for codes now to double check but after searching, this seems like a good possibility.
