Stereo installation help!
Stereo installation help!
I bought a 95 Maxima a couple of weeks ago. The previous owner installed an Alpine CD player (changer in the trunk) with a removable faceplate. Just after I bought it, I had the car detailed ($150!) and one of the guys doing the work apparently tried to force the faceplate onto the stereo and in doing so broke the two small plastic pins on the right side of the frame.
I bought a new part online ($12), but I don't know how to remove the center console cover around the stereo.
Do I have to take the dashboard apart? Do I need any special tools? Can someone please advise? I'm pretty handy, but don't want to ruin anything.
Thanks...Bill (other than this small incident, very happy first-time Nissan owner).

1) you have to pry up the piece around the shifter
2) unplug the cigarette lighter harness
3) there is a screw next to the ashtray. unscrew it and then unplug the ashtry harness
4) There is one screw behind the ashtray on the right and then there is another screw on the left
Here's the fun part, now when you complete this step I swear it's gonna sounds like you broke the piece but you didn't.
5) Inbetween the clock and the thermostat you have to get your fingers in there and pull the clock piece up. You'll hear a snap but thats just the vents separating. Unplug the harnesses if you'd like
6) There are 2 screws left and right. After that once you unplug the thermostat harness's you're home free

Wow, Conrad that was quick! Thanks.
To pry up the piece around the shifter, can I just use a screwdriver, or is something else required?
I'll give a try and let you know.

be careful if you use a screwdriver! I also ws able to use my fingers, puling up on the end closest to the cup holder
I just replaced the broken part. It was a piece of cake, took about 20 minutes.
I would not have been able to do it so quickly and easily without the reassurance and guidance I got from this forum.
Long live maxima.org!!!
