Car is running so rich that it turns off!

My car just started this again, for a while it was doing pretty well, but my problems have come back. My car is running very very rich, so rich that it will turn off out of nowhere. I have an air/fuel ratio gauge that is reading very rich, it corresponds with how bad the car is running. When the car is running well, the gauge reads normal readings. But when the car is very laggy/sluggish, the gauge read very rich (a lot of little green bars). I have no idea why my car is running so rich, it almost feels like its clogging my engine since the ratio of air and fuel is horrible. My acceleration is horrendous, if I were to floor the gas, the car would take like a second to react, very very slow reaction time, in fact I think the RPMs would go up but the car wouldnt move. The only code my ECU gives out is my KS, which is new and I have always gotten that code. ANy ideas? I could use any and all the help you gusy could give me!

That = clutch slipping

where did you tap the signal feed from(a/f guage)?
have you done the 30 mph in 5th gear test on your clutch to see if it's slipping?

Replace your o2 sensors and take the a/f gauge out of the circuit.

See how you car runs then.

Rich = too much gas in the air/fuel ratio

I dont think I can do the 5th gear test since I have an automatic =P
My thought was to replace the o2 sensors, I have never changed them and Ive had the car for a year and a half, and I dount the previous owner changed them either.

Finally, I have my gauge tapped into the o2 sensor harness at the front of the engine (between fans and heat shield).

Check your EGR for vacuum leaks or faulty. Do you have an eratic idle???? and if you have a autometer a/f guage those readings mean nothing...that guage is just for blinking lights..

i used to have sparatic idle until i took my IACV and cleaned it out, not I idle pretty well, wouldnt a faulty EGR trip a CEL? I cant imagine how much carbon buildup is in my EGR, or even in other parts. =(

I have heard of egr's being faulty and not throwing a code but i seen a few guys on the org say a faulty egr threw a KS code. Does your car knock still?????? EGR does have build up and can eventually clog and not work properly.

Your EGR builds up hella carb. When my EGR went bad it did trip the (CEL). Before you even decide to take the EGR off you want to let your car cool down; those things get very hot. But all you have to do is push on the flap and see how much resistance it has. It should move back and forth easily.

Battle Max V2.0 : Yep my EGR tripped off my KS also.

Well that could explain it, cause my car does still knock and I do get that ghost KS code, even though the KS is new. IF a faulty EGR or clogged EGR would throw a KS code, then I may have found my problem, or at least something close to it. I dont know how to test the flap on the EGR, ive never really worked on the EGR in general. If my EGR has as much buildup that my IACV had, then im prolly in big trouble.

Invest in a Haynes manual if you dont have one already it does come in handy. It shows a couple of test you can do to tell if the egr is working properly.

One is start the car let it idle for a minute stick your hand under the egr and rev the engine up to around 2k rpm you should feel the bottom of the egr opening and closing.

hope this helps,

Clean your MAF. Check the conections. When my dsm was running rich, that was a problem
