you mean just changing the bulbs so they light it up brighter? of course you can. they're 194's so you can change the color or get a hyper white back there. i changed mine to blue led's from superbrightleds.com and put some aluminum foil (i know it sounds ghetto but seemed to help) around the white areas in the back so it would reflect better. hope that helps answer your question.

So you used LED bulbs to replace 194s back there. Can you tell please or link to exactly the bubls you were using. I can't find them on superbrightleds.com.

Thank you!

Are these the ones??

The bulbs are not 194

The bulbs behind the '95 - '98 dashes are ABSOLUTLEY NOT 194'S!!!!!!
I took my entire dash apart to do the same thing because everyone here said that 194's would go right in. Well, when I got it all apart I found out they aren't 194's at all!!! I ordered a bunch of 194 LED's from superbrightled.com and they won't fit. The bulbs are much smaller than 194's, they are either 24's or 72's!!! I now have a mess of 194 led's, but thankfully the 194 is used for many other purposes in our cars. I have not as of yet found the right size bulb for our dash in a brighter version and I have been researching every lighting company around. I even ordered the proper size LED's from superbrightled.com the 2nd time around, but they dont give off enough side to side light and you end up with dark spots on the gauges. Not only that, but the white bulbs turn your dash BLUE for some very weird reason.
I think the only way to get a brighter dash on our cars is to try and widen the holes for the bulbs and use 194's. The biggest problem here is finding the 194 bulb holders. The 72 and 24 sizes are available at PEP BOYZ, and are made by Sylvania, but they get $8.99 per holder w/bulb.
If you find the 194 holders let me know because I have been trying to do this for about a month now.

i'm sorry but you are wrong. my 95 has 194's. i thought they changed them in 97 or 98, which would be why yours doesn't use them...whereas myke321's does use 194's because he has a 96.

WRONG! 95-96 DO have 194 back there! I just replaced them two weeks ago.

But 97 and higher do inddeed have different bulbs. So you say LEDS are brighter but leave dark spots in places....hmm, then probably I will wait with purchasing those. What about Polargs??? Did anyone try Red 194 Polargs behind their dashes in 95-96?

My Bad

Hey MYKE,
I was wrong about the dash bulbs for your year. I was at a dealership yesterday getting my FREE alternator replacemant (recall), and asked the parts guy to show me the dash bulbs for the 4th Gen's. He brought out a bunch of bulbs and yes indeed the 95 & 96 do use 194's.
Try the Polarg's, I have them in my corners and they are super bright! You may want to try the 194 white LED's I got from SUPERBRIGHTLED'S.com, they have 6 led's on each bulb, so they may be brighter than the single led #74's that go in the 97 - 99 dash.
I apalogize for giving you the wrong info on my 1st post. That one deserves a double .
