new auto tranny, or go 5spd??
my transmission is starting to go crazy, and i think i might get it rebuilt or just buy a new one and swap them. should i get a new automatic, or is it easy to sway to 5spd once the tranny is already out?

What is the total cost of doing this conversion, assuming I can't find a donor car? I think a fully rebuilt 5-speed is $700 (with VSLD?). Is this correct? How much for the nick-nack parts from a recycler, roughly? Do you need to swap computers?

I know this has alot of variables involved. I thought maybe there was a recycler you guys dealt with on-line or something.
By the way I would be doing all the labor myself, if that narrows it down some...

I just finished my 5-speed conversion and have an auto tranny in perfect working condition with 85k on it. You can have it for $400 plus shipping.
I may hold the record for the most expensive 5-speed conversion in history. Ran into tons of problems with the parts and I got and basically needed everything new. Also, ended up buying 3 manual trannies to finally get one that was perfect and had low miles. In the end, my total cost will be well over $3,000.
If you want a cheap auto tranny to replace yours, just let me know and you can buy mine.

not changing the ecu will give you an engine check light and a higher idle....you should be able to ge this conversion done for 1000-1500...not difficult, just time consuming with alot of work. its not brains surgery tho....

$400 for a used tranny in perfect working order is not expensive at all, especially for an automatic. Personally, I'd never have a tranny rebuilt, I'd just replace it with a used one. Way too expensive to have it rebuilt.
Just let me know if you want it, it is sitting here with no place to go. However if you don't want it and choose another route, that's fine too. Just letting you know I have one.
