i have an idle of around 1100rpms and that is with the a/c and/or defogger off... i know this inst normal any ideas on what it could be ive tried adjusting the idle with the screw on the IAC but no dice..

please help

when was the last time you cleaned the throttle body? this should work....

i clean it every 2 month or three months

Maybe your throttle cable is too tight.

Try disconnecting the TPS harness and start the engine then rev it 2-3 times (2000-3000rpm) under no-load then run engine at idle speed. Now you should be able to adjust the base idle and check ignition timing.

i tried everything that u guys listed above...results...when i unplugged the TPS the rpms shot up then leveled off at ~600 rpms whihc is what im loojing for.. so i reved it up 3 times then shut car and plugged the harnesses back in... and nothing i still had a 1000rpm with the little screw almost all the way down... any ideas

Vacuum leaks will cause a high rpm. Hear any whistling noises?

Yesterday I took out the TB for cleaning. I noticed 3 things that might cause high idling. Tought I'd share it with you, see if it'll help;

1- there is an adjustable throttle lever stop screw, located right above the throtte return spring. This screw is supposed to be factory set, but you never know.

2- there is another adjustable screw at the fast idle cam. This one is actuated by a plunger, itself actuated by coolant entering and exiting the TB through small 5mm hoses. This screw is also supposed to be factory set. Maybe the plunger itself is stuck in the "cold" position. Maybe even the small coolant passage is clogged with debris, never getting in the hot position. Connect a flex pipe at one end and blow through it to check if the passage is clear.

3- under the TB, right under the TB plate, there is a vacuum port (nipple). Mine is plugged with a inch long rubber cap. Maybe yours fell off, creating a vacuum leak?

I noticed all the above while the TB was on the bench. All you need to do to remove the TB is to disconnect is few hoses, the 2 throttle cables, 4 bolts holding the TB and some connectors. It was worth the 20 minutes for me.
