Changing Belts..Idler pulley stuck!!!???

So i have a 114xxx on the old maxipad so its getting time to change her belts.
So,i got a set of gator backs from autozone and i was going to slap em on but the damn idler pulley wont loosen when i loosen the idler adjustment nut. I can loosen it all the way but the damn pulley won't move. It should just slide up and take tension off the belt right? Please tell me i am missing something. This is making me feel like an idiot. damn pulley

i had the same problem. You have to also loosen the 14mm bolt that squezes the washers onto the pulley itself. about a 1/2 to 3/4 turn CCW will loosen it up enough. You must do this, otherwise you'll break the pulley trying to force it (trust me, i've learned the hardway).

it does. there is 2 different way to put back blocking nut from alternator.
if you do it wrong your tensioner will be stuck. so blocking side of nut should be vertical to ground not horizontal. hope you know what i am talking

You can also take the entire idler pulley assembly off if you're still having trouble. The bolts are very easy to get to. I had to do this because I loosened the pulley too much and the tensioner adjustment nut wouldn't move the pulley any more. You have to take it off to re-work it in this situation.

so basically the lip on the block nut should be up and down on the side of the alt?

I'm SO glad I saw this post, was feeling retarded trying to figure out why I could not get the tension off of the belt too.
I found a video on youtube where a guy was replacing his belt, he stuck his hand up under the car saying he was loosening a bolt on a pulley but the video was so dark you couldn't tell what he was doing. You guys are awesome
