Auto Tranny Problem...Slipping?

Here we go, haven't really posted in awhile...Well I have a friend that has a 96 Se Auto, that's been having problems with his tranny or something. This problem only occurs every now and then. When he is trying to take of from dead stop the engine revs up to 3k RPM before it even tries to accel. The other thing is that this problem only occurs if he drives past 70MPH or if he revs while not moving. He did have an intake on but he is all back to stock. He has also thrown out a code 8-6 which is EVAP canister purge control valve/solenoid valve. Does anyone have any idea what is going on. He also has like 130k or 160k Miles on it (can't remember).

Chris

dum dum dummmmm, sounds like problems. when mine did this it would be relatively fine until i accelerated with any force and then the car would do what you describe when i came to a full stop. they call it neutralizing, my car would rev to 1k+ before it jerked into gear. apparently my tranny was loosing pressure because the heat had fried some of my gaskets and clutch packs. i ended up getting a rebuild, but you might also try a new valve body/solenoids first as they are much cheaper than a rebuild.

good luck to you friend
get a tranny cooler

Time to have that tranny rebuilt. As somebody said, it's probably loosing line pressure or the clutches are shot and thats why it's not staying engauged.

After it's rebuilt, switch it over to a synthetic tranny fluid such as Amsoil or ask the shop to use Amsoil when they rebuild it.
