Winter beater?
Winter beater?
Yes I searched, so don't bother with the flames. I got a "You do not have permission to access this page" message.
Do you guys use your cars in the winter or do you have beater cars? It just started snowing here in Ames, Iowa, and I tried making a SLOW turn going downhill and almost hit a parked van. My left front tire may start looking kinda flat in the morning. But anyway, who here uses a beater car other than the maxima in the winter?

Winter tires will do wonders. The Maxima can handle fairly well in the snow with good tires.
I still have a beater too so I don't have to worry about stupid people who can't drive in snow hitting me.

i can barely afford getting new tires, let alone a beater car.

I definatly drive a beater!!! These Pennsylvania winters are hard on CARS. If the stones dont chip the paint the salt eats it away. I have a 95 Contour w/Trac Control. I drove my Max in the snow once after I got it and that was the last time, it has too much get up and go it just wants to spin....also I dont have ABS so that sucks too =)

Maxima for the all the days without snow...
but when it does snow, or its raining and something needs to get dirty I come home and grab the keys to a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7L HEMI...
Damn... that Durango was good until the autotranny decided to fail at 70K....

I bought my maxima as a daily driver. My 240sx would not have made it out of my driveway. LSD doesn't work well on a rear wheel drive car with a turbo in rain yet alone snow. I think I might invest some money on new tires or winter tires for the maxima soon. Nick
So uh...if you want to donate that 240 to the kyle is poor fund, and the kyle needs a turboed vehicle fund... Please email me! (my maxima needs to get me through ALL seasons...With a 5 speed, I dont find it altogether difficult)
This is my second 240 because I put the first one into a tree. I have no problems driving in the winter as long as I can get the car to move. I also like controling fwd drive cars with the ebrake its the funnest. I enjoy driving a 5-speed in the winter than auto. Nick
So my tire looks fine. But as I was driving home last night, the wheel jerked a little while I was going straight. I fear I may have a bent axle. Approximately how much would it be to get it fixed? Any ideas?
Just get winter tires on seperate rims (try tirerack.com). I have some, and it makes all the difference. The Max is actually a great car in the snow if you have the right tires. And this is with the 5 spd and no ABS.
And, as you already know, the best winter driving aid is your brain!! Just cause you can go fast, doesn't mean you can stop fast, snow tires or all wheel drive doesn't help when you slam on the brakes.
Of course, if I had a beater, I'd probably just use it to blow donuts in vacant parking lots with...

Unfortunately, winter tires are not an option. I'm at school with no garage so I'd have no place to hold on to my original tires. They're supposed to be all season tires, but I'm beginning to doubt that. So enough about snow tires, I understand how helpful they are. And I also know driving fast is a bad idea. But does anybody have any input as to how empty my wallet's gonna be if I need the axle fixed? If it is bent, I don't think it's a HUGE bend, but it might prove dangerous when I drive home.
