beaten by my wife

Well i used to own a Max '96 GLE which i handed down to my wife and got me a 99 ES 5spd

Every1 was raving at how fast a 5spd was compared to an auto. So i went out to get me 1.
Well the 96 is auto, pop charger, y-pipe, cat and catback done, ftsb. DRIVER= my wife.
My 99 is still stock... keep in mind that the problem may be ME. I only started driving stick for a month. But still shift at around 6200 RPM. DRIVER = ME

Off the line from a red light to the next (0 to maybe 50-60 mph) we r about tied even thought i get a better launch. Not sure if it's because i have lsd
On the highway at rolling start of around 30 mph, She kills me. I have it at 2nd gear and gut it till i am at the end of my 3rd. Then i let down coz it's no point wasting more gaz. But i was under the impression that the 96 auto time was like 15.5 on average and the 99 5spd was like 15 flat? I mean i felt as if the 5spd was standing still and she was rolling at maybe 10-15mph cruising past me I tried this twice on the highway...same results. Now my wife is all happy coz the car i gave her is much faster. * But wat she don't know is that when she sleeps i'll swap my stock pipe for her y-pipe

Sorry 4 the long story.

Maxpower
P.S. If ya'll have tips 4 me on how to drive more efficient wit a stick plz share it wit me... I'm trying to better my stick driving. I am getting help from my friends already but the more input i get the more i'll grow as a driver.

it's not necessarily your driving. i had all those mods on my auto (and then some) and managed to beat a 5-spd who had intake/ypipe/exhaust. a manual transmission is better to have. however, those mods will more than make up the difference. you should either swap some parts or get your own mods and then you'll see that everything else being equal, a 5-speed will almost always win.

did your 99 have proper maintnence done? when was the last time it was tuned up? that could have something to do with it too.
