96 Maxima Vibration when about to stop
Hi,
This started recently when it got really cold here in Montreal : I noticed that when the car is about to stop - on a traffic light for example - I feel this vibration in the car , the RPM needle goes up a little then goes back to idle. Once the car stops , vibration is much less. This thing also doesn't happen all the time. I know my Knock sensor needs replacement. Would the cold weather have anything to do with it ? Could it be related to the brake system ?
Thanks,
h k

You may need to clean your IAC valve. I need to do this to mine as well. My RPM's were dipping around 500 or so. It did not bother me until my A/C stopped working, with it working the RPM's would go up to 700 or so. What I did for the mean while was to turn the screw on top of the valve one complete turn to the left to get my RPM's to about 625 or so. When I have time to clean the valve I will put the screw back to where it was. My A/C will be fixed this Friday

Hi Gabarit,
Funny you should post this question, I just noticed the same thing starting to happen. I notice this now quite a bit in stop-and-go traffic and when pulling up to a red light. Kind of a slight vibration right before stopping. It's definatly not brakes or anything and I'm 99.9% sure it's engine related.
I got a tank of bad gas a couple of weeks ago... I think they slipped some regular unleaded into the premium unleaded storage tanks. Needless to say, my 96 SE was knocking quite noticeably. Filled up at another gas station a week later and she stopped knocking within 10 miles of the fillup.
When I got the bad gas a couple of weeks AND if I had a properly functioning knock sensor...you'd think the knock sensor would kick in right away and retard the timing before you even heard the knocking....right?? Maybe we both have bum sensors?
BTW, I checked for codes the other day...none were found.
Not sure if this helps you or not...let me know if you find a fix!
