Dome light & headlight problems

Okay, I have two questions about my 95 GXE: The first is about my dome light. It comes on when I turn the switch to on, goes off when switched to off, but when its in the door position, it never lights up (its done this since I bought it about a year ago.)
Second is about my headlights - I had a bulb burn out a while back, and replaced it with a normal bulb, only to have the new one be brighter than the old. So, I went back, bought two new bulbs (so I knew they'd both be the same type), and its doing the same thing, even with the same type of bulbs. I don't know if its something in the wiring, or something with the bulb itself (don't remember what brand they were, I just went to autozone), or what.
Anyone have any ideas or advice on how to fix either of these? Thanks in advance.

swap both your new bulb positions

That'll let you know if it's the bulb (doubtful from what you've typed)

Might sound more like poor contact at the harness of the dim light or the wiring going bad...

Thanks for the idea. I'll give it a try this weekend.
