Any way to improve MPG? (getting 22-24)
Hey -
My 95 GLE was bought used not that long ago, and I don't know what kind of mileage I should be getting, but 23mpg with an auto and lacking a lead foot seems low to me. The car just had its 125,000 mile tune up, so the basics have been done. Is there anything I should look into to bring the miles up?
Thanks!

hahahahahahaha
there are MANY org members who would KILL to have that milage. I myself see that kind of miles with my 5 speed with quite a bit of spirited driving, but most org members see 20 if they are lucky..

if you go to www.edmunds.com an auto maxima is only supposed to get 22...you are getting 1-2 mpg more than that... so i would say you are doing good!
Things to increase gas milage though, are a tb cleaning, new plugs, new oil, new fuel filter, new pcv valve, tire pressure check, injector cleaner, and i think thats about it! up and beyond that, just dont get on the car much, and try to use the cruise control as often as possible

quick question. I only get 17-18 mpg (shift at 3k almost always) and I'm gonna be doing a tune up soon (changed oil, gonna do fuel filter, plugs, tranny oil, K&N intake filter) as far as the injector cleaning....I put a full bottle in last year I believe, or a looong time ago anyways. Should I only use half a bottle when I do it next or should I go ahead and do a full bottle since its been so long? Thanks.

I recently took a trip to Saint Louis in my 155,000-mile 98 SE auto. I upped the tire pressures from around 20 to the factory-spec 32/29. On a flat trip with little wind, cruise set at 75, I returned 28.25 mpg! Much better than my typical 23 mpg.
Now, I could possibly have skewed the numbers a bit by not topping off enough, but I didn't try to.
Flat highway cruising with well-inflated tires and a light passenger load should give you a decent mpg.
