hey, i have a k&n filter on my max (95, 63k miles, otherwise stock) .. i have some issues with the performance side of it.

when i stomp on the gas from a start, i barely get any tire spin. i know the torque loss is noticeable, but damn, is it that bad? plus i have a system.

when under hard acceleration, i notice a drop-off in power just below 4k RPM. i can correct this only by going WOT.

when going up a slight incline and my trans is in 3rd or 4th gear, power is nearly not even present. once i noticed that my RPM was staying the same while the MPH was decreasing


can anyone state what the reason might be?

 

Your knock sensor might be going bad. Is the CEL lit up?

 

the CEL will not light up most of the time with a knock sensor problem

 

CEL = not lit. i have been getting less than avg gas milage. should i check the ECU anyhow?

Like the others have said check your codes and see if you have a K/S issue. I actually disconnected mine and drove around and my car felt the same. I was getting 250 mi to the tankful when I was used to getting 340+ per tankful. I ordered my K/S on ebay and had it swapped out in an hour using the www.skippynet.com method. Since the day I bought my car I don't think I was ever able to break the tires loose from a dead stop. Now I can and the car is more fun to drive.....Good luck

 

just checked the ECU, got 0505.

i dont want to get a bloody hand and 90 dollars poorer for a petty knock sensor that might or might not be bad. are there other places i should check?

power is incredibly low under 3,000 rpm. once 3k hits power comes back quickly.

coil packs, spark plugs, do some regular maintanence, maybe that will help
