Just got my 5 speed ecu.

Any tips before I install it? or do I just unplug the old harness and take it out, then pop in the new one and plug it in?

For those who are wondering why, my car was converted and still have the auto ecu with check engine, I need to pass smog and cant with a check engine light.

ghetto "ecu hanging on the flootmat" way - remove plastic trim and unscrew the harness, pull harness off old ecu and plug and screw it into the new one and let it dangle on the floor mat.

real way- remove both plastic trims and unscrew all 4 bolts holding ecu onto the bracket using a ratcheting "L" shaped philips screwdriver, unplug harness and slide out ecu from the bracket, slide in new ecu and screw it back to the bracket(1 or 2 bolts is fine since its a bitsh to scew the back ones) plug in harness and bolt it down, snap the black trim back on and your done.

Prepare to be on your hands and knees for a bit

Sweet thanks Nismo.

I was pretty sure that is how it was done, just wanted to make sure there were no tricks.

New problem, I pulled the auto ecu and plugged in the new 5 speed ecu. I have all my lights BUT the check engine light is not on when you turn the key in the on position. Now the car just turns over but will not fire off, just *vuvuvuvuvuvu* I plugged the old auto ecu in and it does the same exact thing, no check engine light and just turning over but not firing.

It is 9/96 production date, 97 SE. I got the new ecu off car parts they told me it was the right one.

UPDATE: I pulled the hose off the fuel filter and tried turning it over and it is getting no fuel. I pulled the fuel pump all the way out and hooked it to the battery charger and it is spinning and running. Now there has to be a reason it is not getting juice to the fuel pump.

remove the rear seat.. have someone lie on the fuel tank housing with an ear to it.. crank the the car a couple times.. but dont' start it.. listen if you hear the fuel pump making noise..

if not.. a) fuse as nismo said. b) pump is dead..

I pulled the pump out of the car cause I couldnt hear it. I hooked it up to a batter charger and it spins and pumps away. So for some reason it is not getting any juice now. Is there any wire that goes into the ECU that might of gotten pulled?

I believe so, although I would have to check the FSM to be sure. Maybe somebody with a 97 FSM (mine's for a 95) could tell you the pin location and the wire color.
