air intake temperature sensor in a K&N cone?

I read this on this guys max website: "Since the 95 Maxima is ODB-II compliant, it has an air intake temperature sensor on the factory air box. I had to drill a small hole in the end of the K&N filter, and mount the sensor. It all worked perfectly."

I have a K&N air filter, and i just have that sensor out side of the filter. Should it be inside like motorvate.ca states?

same for my cone filter, you get a more accurate reading of tempurature as far as the intake is conserened rather than the engine bay but not much of a difference.

motorvate.ca is an excellent site, I have the sensor inside. Basically, where the fabircated MAF adapter meets the MAF sensor and resonator, I wedged the wire between these to pieces and let it hang in the cone. Afterwards I siliconed to insure no vaccum leaks esp. around where the wire is wedged.

would you drill a small hole at the top for the sensor? Any drawback by doing this?

there are no drawbacks as long as everything is sealed. Rubber and silicone usually help insure things are sealed.

If you want to avoid modifying anything, I'd recommend getting some soft steel muffler strapping, and just rigging up a bracket using the existing mounting points for the stock air box. Takes about 2 seconds and positions the sensor dead on in the middle of the cone. Sorry I don't have any pics, but the job's easy enough.

Hope that gives you another option.
