Just had my rotors turned and new pads put on at the brake shop. They are not smooth at all. Make grinding sound when brakes are applied. Took it back and he told me that the pads had to seat on the rotors. Told me to drive it a few miles and see if it smoothed out. Is this normal? Sounds really bad, will it really get better or is something wrong?

Normal

You'll hear some slightly "gritty" sound for a while as the brakes are applied but it should go away... I just helped my friend do his brakes on his accord... same noise...

So long as the feel and action of the brakes is good, you should wait a while (about 50 miles or so? depending how you use the brakes).

Just changed my pad last weekend and they only made noise for a day. Do you know if they put the anti-squeal compound on the back of the pads and shims? It eliminates the metal on metal contact and doesn't make any squeaking or grinding noise. The pads I bought came with it.

My Axxis brake pads were literally screaming and grinding for about 1-2 days. Now everything seems to be normal, no sounds or anything.

The anti-speek stuff works for about 3 days. The rotors need to be resurfaced or replaced....not every time you get pads, but it depends how the rotors hold up...that's why it sqeeks.

BTW it is normal for it to take a few days for pads to 'break in' to new rotors.
