Completley removing spare wheel well?
Completley removing spare wheel well?
I am just about to purchase two Dynomax mufflers. Big ones fo rthe depe quiet tone Im hoping to find. Instead of further pounding in my spare tire wheel well to make room, I was thinking of removing it completely. Sawing it out and welding something else there. What kind of place would do something like this?
If you have all the right tools, do it your self, otherwise I would take it to a metal fab shop and have them cut it out and weld something in place. I am sure they will have some sheet metal around that is of similar gauge as the unibody, and it will be professional quality work. Maybe even a race prep shop can do it.

i'd have it done professionally, if its done wrong it could really screw you up if you get rearended...
i bent the tub a few months back when i bottomed it out really bad. banging it back out was not very hard so i don't know how vital it is to the strength of the unibody...
if you end up having it done tell us how they did it...

He probly means if you don't cover the gaping hole that it will cause WIND (not wing, typo?) resistance. It would make sense that you would need to put something (welded sheet metal) there otherwise you would have some serious electrical problems when it rains.
No well I mean why do you think they have rear wind diffusers an I did mean WIND resistance. all that air traveling under your car would have more space to move around and then eventually getting cought by the rear bumper it would make sense to place a thin piece of sheat metal between both mufflers all the way to the reare bumper in order to counter act what you just tok out. Did I explain my self correctly this time. Sorry about the run on.
I had this done at a fabrication shop when I got my air suspension installed. I forget the size of sheetmetal that was used, but the shop got it all measured out and installed perfectly. All of my airtanks and compressors fit great under the car. In any case, any good fabrication shop should be able to do it for you.

Look at all the people with systems in well. I have my spare out because I rarely travel more than 15 miles from home. If I get stuck I call a friend or mom and they go grab the spare from my house. Thats what friends are for. I do bring it on long trips though.
