obx catback exhaust (ex9758r)

so i ordered the obx catback off eBay off the seller ssautochrome and i just got home last night. pics are here:
http://maxima.cardomain.com/memberpage/352601/3
it was advertised as a 95+, but it's clearly for 97-99 as u can see because of the extra O2 sensor hole. i also lined it up and it looks like it will be a little long on my car (i have a 95). also, the inner diameter of this exhaust is in between 2.5" and 2.25".
in the last pic, you can see the silencer that came w/ the exhaust and i took out the screw that holds it in, but cant' freakin pull the silencer out. anybody know how i can get this thing out? im thinking if i want it out that bad, i could take it to an exhaust shop or something and have them take it out after i install. does anybody know how it sounds w/ the silencer and w/o ? thanks.

You have the same exhaust I do!

the silencer is hard as hell to get out...Get a pair of pliers and a clothe and just tug forever, it will come out eventually... and btw get 4 hose clamps, you'll need em the exhaust is going to hang hella low....
just wrap the hose clamps around the rubber hangars that hold your exhaust and tighten till it pulls the exhaust into alignment...I have not heard the exhaust with silencer, but without its deep, quiet and mean sounding (i dont have a y pipe yet )

I have that one also. It's bad a$$. Yeah the silencer was a pain for me too. The trick is to pull on one side then the other and go around. Don't pull it out in one spot. And a little WD30 helps.....

There is a bar under the maxima the goes under the b-pipe(u have to take it off to get the new one on). Anyway, after a few days when it got really cold, my b-pipe (the obx one) starts hitting it and rattling like crazy. There is one of those rubber hangers on the b-pipe that I had to put a hose clamp on it to keep it from hitting the bar. Also, you have to find a bolt to put on the new obx b-pipe b/c the stock one had the bolt welded to it(to hold the hanger).

the hose clamps sure come in handy

there some more info on the obx here

LOL i was having the same problem last week. when i installed it u have to getsome wd40 spray it a lil bit then get a pair of pliers start graving the tip of the silencer move it up and down then take a strong pull it was out. For a second it felt like that damn silencer was welded on there lol. i have a y pipe too its freaking loud. its taking a nice tone to it after a almost 2 weeks. you have to use hose clamps to get nice even look.thanks 4 the help 97blackSE and mecca.

I have the OBX exhaust, I just took it to a local shop, charged me $40. They did mention they had a difficult time with it, but all ok. I have a Stillen Y with it, both sound real good

okay i finally got the silencer out. i DID try the plier method (thanks 97blackse and nissanse98 and reymax77), but it jus wasn't working too well and i didn't want to rip my hands off trying. anyway, my brother and i ended up doing this:
javascript:ShowImage('http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/show_image.pl?migration=1&image=http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/4/web/352000-352999/352601_30_full.jpg', 575, 431)
i looped that strap through the silencer two times and then looped that over my shoulder while i sat on the ground. then i put my feet on the hangers and i guess did a squat while lying on my back. haha yep it eventually popped out. okay, i won't have time to install this anytime soon as i'm leaving for vacation, but i'll let the .org know how it fits (because i don't know anybody else who has bought this exhaust and put it on a 95 or 96). okay thas all for now. thanks.
