it's more of a safety thing...too many idiot drivers cutting into a lane I'm cutting into bc they don't pay attention to me. I'm thinking if theres a blinker on the side they'll see me...i'm gonna use this one

so it won't be sticking out as much and itll match my smoked headlights/hyperblack corners...

it's everyone's personal perogative to choose whether or not they want to do this type of mod....whether you think it ruins anything or not...

there are two common ways to install side lights...mine required cutting the fender with a dremel to allow it to pop into place quite easily for replacement of bulbs when needed....the wires are tapped to the sidemarkers in front of the tire...check pics on homepage for more closeups...they are BMW clear sidemarkers i got off EBay.

the other type of lights only require a hole large enough to run the wire thru...much easier but it really depends on the style of mount and how good you are with tools...

You should apply a metal etching primer to the new bare metal surfaces (go to the hardware store - they'll help you get what you need), just to seal the metal, before installing the light.

paint or sealant on the cut area would keep all rust away. silicon would be a smart idea anyway and keep the hole from allowing water into the fender.

How hard would it be to make side bumper light, the one next to the blinker, blink also?

its a side indicators, so i think if you made it a full time signal, you would be SOL for the second function as an idicator. You need a turn signal signal wire (no, not a typo) to indicate when to flash and disrupt. You could splice from the front half of the corner...but you need the wiring diagram for the front corners. it would be really involved, and generally pointless

You can have it wired up, so it will be on w/ your parking lights, and then it will blink alternately w/ your blinkers. To do that, it's just like doing the blinker mod( I forget what its called )

yes, but im not sure if the signal would take the load of two lights instead of one. you also need to know what wires to use...i will look for some instructions

i know its everyones personal perogative, but i was just giving my opinion...and many decisions are made by opinions of members on this board ( i also know ludacris wasnt asking for an opinion and i wanted to see what others response to this mod would be cosmetically looking wise)

and ludacris....i do understand why you would want to do this for safety purposes...too many people dont pay enough attention

ludacris,
Why don't you just get the turn signal indicator side mirrors, people would still see it from the side.

I really hope you know what doing b/c I ruined one of my cars installing side markers because I didn't know what the h3ll I was doing. It is not as easy as it sounds, at least I didn't think but it is real easy to f*ck up your car. Keep in mind you are cutting into your cars exterior, if you screw it up you will have to buy a new fendor, have it painted and installed. That would be a very expensive mistake, i'm speaking from experience man but do want you want but if it were me I would buy the mirrors.

i wish those lights came with a 3m glue and you could just stick them on and they'd glow on their own

Yeah, I was worried about that. After thinking about it today I'm not so confident in me or my friends cutting into my fenders...$100+ to install these is ridiculous tho. They had some smoked subaru impreza sidemarker/repeaters on ebay for $10 and if I installed it all myself itd come out pretty cheap...thats why I was considering this mod...cheap and effective. Not looking to spend 150+ for an extra blinker...how'd you mess up ur car?

yep...especially in LA

all the big cities are like that, but so far this mod isnt exactly perfected. Like everyone said, turn signal mirrors are a good option. they would cost a little more, and require paint, but they would also give you the same safety functionality, and you KNOW they will fit.

reflectors, like shiney plastic markers. You know the ones that shine when light hits them. You can get them in a lot of different shapes and sizes too... lemme look for a link later
