Warped rotors, rusted exhaust, bad O2 sensors, CEL (Knock sensor), axle click, clutch worn, door handle chipped. Other than that...car's in perfect shape with 102k miles.

Pretty much all of the NON mechanical issues on my Max bother me to some extent but I'm first and foremost worried about mechanical problems..

Awful squeek when I first turn over the engine, usually comes and goes so I have no idea if the starter needs regreasing or if the belts need adjustment/replacement

The steering wheel is slightly off center to the left after I adjusted the tire pressure so I'm hoping an alignment will cure that..

Engine's a bit noisey on idle..again hopefully either it's the belts or the timing chain making noise..another on and off issue and I can't hear it unless I'm standing around the hood..

Brakes are worn to a nub!! Needs new pads and probably new rotors..woops

Probably other small mechanical issues I haven't found but it's been good!

I think the tranny leaks b/c i never replaced the seals from the new axles. I broke the doors locked confirmation blink when using the remote. Antenna is sticking. Replaced all O2 sensors, knock sensor, muffler, rear struts, brake pads, its all the stuff thats supposed to wear out. This is why I stand behind Nissan. I cant wait until the rest of the exhaust rots through....warpspeed here I come. I just wish i took better care of the paint!

i voted perfect, although, my only complaints are the cheap driver's seat there's a broken bracket, and the paper thin metal that dings even if you just tap it. other than that i love my max.

Where do I begin?
Replaced clutch at 90K and stock flywheel had hot spots and needed replacement (previous owner must have beat the crap out of the clutch) but I was putting in a Fidanza anyway so it worked out fine. I have a knocking noise from the front sustpension on bad roads, had to replace O2 sensor due to cheap Mexican gas, warped front rotors (I've never done that on my 9 previous cars and still trying to figure it out) and the aftermarket pads squeal like a city bus, Nissan black paint sucks (especially the bumbers) the dash squeaks in two places, and the Bose buttons keep falling off. Other than that, no problems at all! I still would not sell her either.

It's funny how some times we as enthusiasts overlook the problems with our car and just buy performance parts for other parts of the car instead of recognizing the dilemma at hand.

Rear calipers were sticking (replaced)
Knock sensor went bad (replaced)
EGR solenoid (dealer replaced)
Starter whines
A/C compressor noisy
Wheel stud broken off (replaced)
Power steering tensioner bolt broken (my fault)
Transmission drain plug won't come out
Some fuel ventilation crap (dealer replaced)

Not the worst but enough to keep me from buying another Nissan.

The only problems I had started when the car was over 100k. I changed a bad KS earlier this year along with the water pump, left wheel hub and bearing, right wheel bearing, left axle (my fault for not noticing my ripped CV boot) and AC compressor. That is it for now, the car still pulls great, I am very happy with it .

Bought at 37,000 miles. Replaced O sensor at 38,000. 4 yr.s, 80,000 miles and one speeding ticket later, 23 mpg, a few odd rattles, muffler leaks; flowmaster or magnaflow or cheap??? Air dam needs paint. Right CV joint used to make noise until I put on the new springs and struts and bushings. The only question is the clutch, which is original.

Mine is perfect, other than: Small dent under left side rear door window. Broken heater vent near clock (my fault) and steering wheel is crooked after right side cv shaft replacement.

I am the 2nd owner of a black 99 gle, purchased at 120,000 kilometers, now approaching 170,000. I have changed the front brake pads, other than that, had to reset an ecu code for transission, never reappeared and have had to reset the airbag light a few times, recently during damp weather, prolly a connector somewhere. The car is stock but pulls well, I drive it fairly agressively at times but don't abuse it. Do regular maintenance, all myself, feed it regular gas (supposed to be bad but doesnt affect it so far) and run synthetic oil. Very happy with it, everything works as it should, no interior problems, a few dings in the body, will paint in a year or 2. I plan to drive this car for at least 3 more years, she has not let me down yet, very happy.

Update. I just ordered a new radiator, should be in tomorrow. I noticed it had a leak on Saturday morning . I was taking the kids up to the mountains to play in the snow and decided to check under the hood.

I am still happy witht the Max though .

There is a simple part under the passenger side dash (forget what it's called) you need to replace to correct this problem. It's about $28 at any Nissan dealer & can be removed/installed in under 3 mins. It looks like a small circuit board with a wiring harness plug attached to it. It's held in place by two screws.

(If you look up underneath the dash, you'll see what I'm talking about).
