Squeaky brakes - but they are aftermarket Brembo slotted with Axxis/PBC metal pads.
Engine burning oil - but compression is at 170 - 180 across all 6 cylinders and it is pulling strong numbers.
A tiny rattle from SOMEWHERE in the front dash - that is drowned out by the stereo.
Flakey Harlan RPM switch - hope to get it fixed by getting the $46 Summit RPM switch.

I don't want to ginx it but here it goes...
I have a good running max but it seems to hestate at acceleration (igntion coil).
Need new modas, they're all scratched up.
But for about 134,000 miles I think the maxima is holding up very well.

Biggest problem so far.....had to rebuild engine and replace pistons at 57,000 miles after a mevi screw came loose and was smashed into the cylinder head by the piston. Other than that, no problems at all

at 143500 , excellent car...No probs , good gas mileage for the size and power no leaks or troubles... Oil is clean even after 3k ...It starts and runs great .I would like to keep it for a very long time, unless the body goes due to NY salt. 96 SE 5 speed
major problems were coils and injector , few sensors and transmission about to die.... way too coslty for a poor college student, because those money coul be spent on mods, but I am still happy with a car!!!

Well, I'm probably the luckiest person on maxima.org.
I have about 176,000 miles on the stock auto tranny, and is now just starting to slip BARELY.
Other than that, I had some front left caliper problems at about 125,000 miles, but nothing major. I have a small leak in the EVAP canister, and a bad o2 sensor. Oh, did I mention that I've never changed my knock sensor, and my car still pulls like it did from day 1?
This goes to show that highway miles are healthy for your car, even though the milage is high.
But I think that my CEL finally burnt out.

the only major probelm i had was my clutch but that was because of my driving style.
And i got a knock sensor code and front 02 sensor code taht iwill get around to fixing once it gets warm again in CT.

My rack/pinion needs some new bushings and it its leaking steering fluid.
I just notice right now that my clucth is leaking so I need to replace that hose that goes to the slave cylinder.
My passanger's side CV boot its gone and there is grease all over mt wheel. I need a new axle.
over all no other issues. I still love my car

My 96 SE 5-speed, with 92K miles, is still running great. However, she spends all of her rainy and winter days, in the garage since buying another daily driver.
I will probably be getting rid of her in the next year or two though. It has been a great ride. And the next owner will be getting a heck of a car.
But I am going to get my hands on a 2002 or 2003 SE 6-speed, this time with leather. And then the modding will start all over again.

ive been getting bad gas mileage, replaced clutch, now those differential bearings went, ripped cv boot, and had powersteering fluid leaks. But i still love her, and what is to expect from a used car with 108 on her.
I think my car is on its deathbed... Not really but I have had more problems lately than I had in all of that last 90k miles. Recently I have done the sunroof rebuild and am working on whatever is making the terrible squeal from my front right wheel. And the usual rattles have only been made worse from my lowering springs and sub in the trunk.
Apart from the starter dieing last month and the usual maintanence stuff, it's been perfect, still feels like a new one at 150k+miles
I do lots of long distant open road driving, not as much stopping and starting which I believe is better for it

97 SE with 130K stock tranny
no major issues but few things won't let me rest pacefully ....
-Ride quality is still not what i want ( stock Se springs Tokico's hp's up front , KYB AGX rear ) went from Sprints/KYB AGX to H&R/KYB AGX to H&R/Tokico/KYB
to Stock SE springs/Tokico/KYB AGX - and now my "beater" 93 prizm with brand new Gabriel struts rides better !!! ( front and rear independent suspension though)
- frozen hand brake
- small exhaust leak from EGR back pressure transducer
- was told by the aligment tech that my front passenger side hub might be "bent" - he couldn't get the camber within specs.
other than that - car drives fine - on some days i realy want to push her off the cliff and on some days i tell myself that she's a keeper till wheels fall off !!!
BTW resale value of 97Se with 130k is about $6500 if you lucky - show me one car with same level of performance/comfort/luxury for that price and i'll buy it !!!!

Just hit 100k no major issues (knock on wood, cross fingers, and pray to the Maxima gods). Minor issues were replacement of front 02 sensor, egr valve, and thermostat (do not attempt this at home). Routine maintainance and my baby is still knockin out 400+ miles to a tank.
109k mi
POS crankshaft position sensor
Starter (2)
Alternator
1 Coil pack
Battery (2)
Transmission rebuild - didn't go well. . .the saga continues
Love my car, even though the transmission just about broke me & my desire to keep it.

I am the 3rd owner on my 95 SE. So far since I bought it at 79K it has had a tranny rebuild (100K), new clutch (100K), new CV boots(104K), AC idler adjuster arm (105K), and a new timing chain(105K). All I can say is...what the hell is next....the knock sensor, the coil packs, the OEM struts, all the Bose speakers (one just went out), or maybe transmission bearings werent shimmed properly and it'll need another rebuild?? Im sad because I really like my car but it has been a moneypit so far. I was going to sell it to get a newer Maxima or something else, but I cant, due to the large investment just made on the timing chain and the CV boots. I just hope the rest of the things that go wrong are cheaper and easier fixes.
294,000 miles and counting. I've replaced about everything there is to replace over the last 100,000 miles. Overall I feel I got my moneys worth. 1997 Maxima SE, bought her new for $27K and change. I will put her to sleep in couple weeks though as I've been stranded a couple times(alternator, starter).
lets see... where do I begin.... 99 SE 63.5K miles
-transmission control unit (1)...warranty -was not the problem
-transmission solenoid (2)...warranty - was not the problem
-new wire on transmission...warranty - fixed transmission problem
-ohio dealership left out bolts causing something in the VB to stop working...not under warranty here
-Automatic Shifter (broken by Ohio Dealership)-$235
-1 bad coil pack
-Brakes are starting to squeak
-Had to buy a new battery
-Needs new accessory belts
...i think thats it... but with everything fixed with the transmission I love my car!
