How to Disable Key Chip in 99 Max

Hey guys i've got a 99 max and i'm having a remote start installed over the holidays, I need to know how to disable the feature that looks for the chip in the key

as we all know 99 was the year that nissan first started using a chip in the key as an anti-theft method. I'm having a friend help me with the install, he used to do it professionally so he knows what hes doing but it will be alot cheaper for me to disable that feature than to get and extra key and purchase the addon you need for the alarm to make it all work togeather.

I know that it can be done i just dont know how to do it =] if anyone has any info that would help id appreciate it.

Just disable the factory system? There should be a way to disable it from the car, there may even be just a fuse to pull out. Try reading the FAQ's there may be some more info in there. Good luck.

Um..... nope. That would entirely defeat the purpose of an expensive transponder-based anti-theft system.

You'd need a transponder bypass (basically the professional version of taping the key to the ignition block) There was a post a couple days ago about this... but I STRONGLY SUGGEST you skip the remote start in favor of keeping your security chipped key. It may have been all that stood between your max getting stolen and an older one getting hot-wired...

I agree with Richmax, the remote starter is not the worth the risk that you would be putting your Maxima in. People have tried to steal my car four times in less than 3 years and trust me, that chip WAS the only thing stopping them. My whole ignition was ripped in the attempts but guess what. My car was still sitting there waiting for me, albeit in a non driveable position, but still there nevertheless. But, hey, thats just my $6000 opinion......

not true...

i will explain that is IS safe to do.

ok, now everyone says that is a bad idea to do because of security reasons and what not, but it is all BS. i have my car wired with a remote start unit, and NO ONE can figure out how to start it. i took it to go get fixed, and the mechanic spent a whole day trying to figure it out, but i eventually had to go down there and hive him a lesson on proper use to start it. now, i will explain why it is safe:

the transponder unit is rather clever. the box is hidden away in a hard place to get to, either under you dash, or behind the tranny. (underneath the radio.) now, the box is ONLY sending a signal if you press the button to start your car. after you press the button and the car is started, the transponder ends transmission of the keys signal. the car ONLY needs to "sense" the signal for 1-3 seconds when the car is trying to start, other then that, you can drive around as long as you want and the car will not care.

the only way this will not be safe is if the theif finds the box and breaks it open, then steals the key... but that is unlikely because:

1.) he is probably not looking for a box with a key in it.
2.) if he is, there are two or three boxes, and he would have to take apart half the car to get to them just to find it is the wrong box.
3.) by the time he takes ripping apart the car to find it, he will probably either give up, or if you have an alarm then you will go out and find this guy.

another way this is not safe is if you have a 5spd like i do. first off, no one will install a remote start on a 5spd, and second, you have to be very carefull not to leave it in gear.

hope this helps, and if you have any more questions then let me know.

I'd also be interested in disabling the key chip feature. I live in an uptown section of New York State and luckily I don't have to worry about my car getting stolen( 94 GXE). However my mom '99 gle is giving us a hard time. She managed to break off both keys from the keyless entry console (Damn cheap keys...Why couldn't ehy put the metal reinforcement all troughout? No, they had to make them out of cheap plastic). Anyway, I went to the Nissan dealer for her and the bastards want $150 for one copy and $100 for each additional one after that. I know that regular copies will not work unless i find a way to disable the key chip so please guys help me out!!!!

Only one side of the key is chipped. Did you make sure that the chipped side was near the keyhole? The imobilizer ring is around the ignition.

pop the little chip out and stick/glue it somewhere near the imobilizer ring.
