Vibrations while idling

Hi, everyone! I have a question , please. I am driving my recently purchased 98 GLE. It runs nicely. However, whenever I stop (e.g. at the traffic light), I experience "thin", frequent vibrations, higher then the usual ones. You can feel them by holding the steering wheel, or just by touching, e.g., the door. When I release the break pedal and start moving, I don't feel the vibrations (well, at least nothing above the normal ones). So, I am not sure whether that's the way the engine starts working when idling (I think, most likely), or something to do with the brakes. The rps (when idling) remain steady at about 600. This is the type of a problem when you can live with it, but after two weeks of driving, I still can't get used to that, and it is extremely irratating. My previous Max 95 GXE, killed in a crash a month ago, didn't have this problem. I am afrait that if I take it to the Nissan dealership, I will spend hundreds of bucks, and they still won't fix it. Could that be dependant on GAS (I am using 91 or 92)? I would accept any advise / help you can provide, and greatly appreciate your input.

Have a great Holiday season, everyone!
Eugene.

P.S. The vibrations actually start when I am getting close to a complete stop, while breaking.

Check to see if the exhaust has play in it. My mom's Civic does the same thing and her muffler is loose. The shop that put in a new muffler and pipe last year didn't do a great job with it...

It could be the mounts

Thanks a lot, JaTaN!
I haven't thought about that, and it could be a possibility.
Any other ideas, Please?

Eugene.

well my first to guess would be TB and battery terminals. My car was also starting to vibrate white at idle. Especially when I hit the brakes while I was on at a complete stop. It felt as if the car was about to die on me. I cleaned my Throttle Body and my battery terminals and now my car feels so much better. It idles like a Maxima now and not like an 86 Chevy truck .

Thank you, optimus310! I found a link on how to clean a TB. My Max doesn't seem as about to die on me, but still the vibrations are very unpleasent, and it wouldn't hurt to clean the Throttle Body anyways.

Also make sure to clean the Battery terminals. I used to feel that vibration everytime I would step on my brakes while at a complete stop. Since the brakes use some good amount of power my RPMs would drop a little bit due to the extra energy used on the brakes.

Thanks again, optimus310! Looks like the symptoms I experience are close to yours. Sorry for a probably silly question, but would it be enough to clean the battery terminals just by a clean cloth, or is it better to use some stuff (cleaner) for that purpose?

Thanks a lot.

Use a mixture of baking soda and water. You can also use Coke or Pepsi. Use a toothbrush or a wire brush to clean it
