slave cylinder going bad????

what are some symptoms of a slave cylinder going bad??? would a slave cylinder going bad cause a clutch to start slip? i have a 95 5spd obviously with 112k miles. my new clutch has around 8k miles on it. the shop is a respectable shop because it is a family friend. any input would be great.

Thanks.

I'm by no means an expert, but here's my experience: I was having fluid leak out, and I got a mechanic friend to look at my car. He said it was the slave cylinder, and I should be able to replace it myself. I did, and still had a leak. I then replaced the hose going to the slave cylinder, and that stopped my leak. Each part was about $40. You should be able to have someone move your clutch in and out and be able to see the slave cylinder piston move in and out. There's a fellow Maxima owner's site that details the hose replacement along with many other useful things but I can't think of it at the moment......
