intake gains

I wanted to know how much is gained from an intake, popchargers, hybrid, cai and hacked air box since they all give around the same gain. I have heard gains from 1-2hp to 8-10hp, I dont know which is right. Has anyone done a dyno after installing an intake?

most of the time you will not see gains of 10hp. when a magazine says "gives gains upto 8-15hp. That means that ONE factory freak gained 15hp to the crank, so now the company can publish those gains. most likely you wont see that much of a difference, about 3-5whp with various intakes.

With maximas though, you will find that many people complain that their intake is hurting their times. i Know that when i put on my place racing CAI my throttle response was ****, but it did pull a bit harder over all. i would recommend that you just do a popcharger or ebay intake instead. its cheaper and will yeild the same gains

I have a frankencar intake, it is way overpriced. I could have got the same thing on ebay cheaper. Im not really sure if I gained anything but it feels more responsive. I would prefer the car to be quieter so I dont want it just for the sound. I was thinking about getting the bomz cai off ebay for cheap since its the same as the pr cai. I thought a cai was suppose to give better low end then a hybrid/popcharger?

When I received my BOMZ, I took it to a mechanic for an install. But he wasn't sure if I wanted to punch a hole in the car so he left it as an HAI. So I had the HAI for a couple of days and that thing pulls at high revs. After taking it back he punched the hole and I left with a CAI and it pulls hard at low rpms but sucks crap at high rpms...so it all depends on wat you'd rather have. On highways, there's times when i wish I had a HAI for the high end torque.

Get one of these:

or...

I love the sound it makes at high RPMs.
It's cheap, don't waste money on an expensive intake that's not even as good as this one.

It has to be the best intake, Think about it. I don't know how it could be any better.
1. There is basically no air resistance, only one small curve in the huge 3 inch pipe.
2. The pipes don't heat up at all.
3. The actual air sucked in is much colder then the air in the engine bay.

The only bad thing about it the difficult install, but all it takes is time.

Tyrexx, is that a cai that needs a hole cut through the wheel well? Im might just go with a cai because I dont go on the highway much. Anyone have any videos, or sound clips of a cai? What kind of gains would a hacked airbox get, highend like a hybrid?

Yes, that needs a hole. The midpipe is straight, not curved as in Injen intakes. All of you, get off your lazy @sses and make one. Then go get a weather sheilding thing from Home Depot that seals off house roof vents and you have got yourself a Hybrid for about $60, depending how much your filter was.

Is the response really bad with a cai? I read a few post about the response being bad with this intake.

not to my knowledge. Just at high rpms it may be in some situations because at higher rpms, the engine needs to suck more air in and that bend prevents it from doing that, versus the short HAI. But in lower rpms, not at all.

The filter is a POS. If you anyone gets this intake, then they should find a better filter immediately. I am speaking out of personal experience with Ebay intakes.

If anyone wants to hear a sound clip of a place racing CAI, just go to custommaxima.com, and look under multimedia. It sounds nice.

yes, most ebay intakes are crap, but its all where you look. I didnt want to buy a $250 AEM CAI for my GSR, so i just got a BOMZ intake off of ebay for $20 and it works well, and the filter is pretty darn good also. i will probably replace it with a K&N when summer comes though. none the less it is suitable

A HAI with a velocity stack bolted to the MAF. The filter clamps to the outer edge of the stack. Can reduce the air turbulence in the intake.
