How Many here bought thier Max brand new?

Bought mine brand new a few months too early. My blazer died on me and I needed a car quick, bought the max within a week. Had I been able to wait a couple months for the early release of the '99s I wouldn't have paid as much as I did. I think sticker on my '98 SE in Northern NJ was $26K at the time.

I got mine brand new back in 1999. I paid $25K for it. At the time there weren't many choices in the import market. My choices at the time was either maxima, Civic Si, Eclipse or Integra Type R. I wanted the Civic Si but the Honda dealership wouldn't take anything less than MSRP for it. Now I think back, I should've gotten the Eclipse GSX. With the money I threw at my maxima, I could be riding around in a low 12 sec Eclipse with AWD.

Leased my 97 GLE in Aug. of 97, had 28 miles on the odometer. Sticker was $29,8XX, I still have it somewhere. Got it for $26k. I'll tell you if the residual was not so high I would have bought it at the end of the lease, it was far superior to my 96 in every way.

You better believe it, because I got ripped off by Nissan. Have I learned to make the best of it? You betcha. But Nissan was and is still penny-wise and pound foolish. Never gonna get me to buy another of their products!! But you know why I did it? Because Camry stick was not available except CE version 4-cyl., Acura too expensive, Honda too expensive as well, and 190 HP was decent back then. Today, there are so many alternatives even if you want a stick. So as the song goes (to Nissan)....nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, GOODBYE!

The most important lesson in life is to learn from our mistakes. In the beginning, I looked forward to each new Nissan product, hoping they could turn the shi* around. C'mon now, did any Maxima fans cheer when the 2k came out in August? There was only 1 word for it, UGLY. They had yet another 4 years to fix it, and what happens? The 6th gen with the bling-bling grille. It ranked 12/12 in a group of sedans.
With Automobile Magazine and Road and Track REMOVING the 350Z from their best lists after only 1 year, what's left for Nissan? An SUV made in Mississippi?
