Why the shaking at 70 mph?
Anyone know why my car would be shaking at higher speeds? It's particularly bad at 68-82 and then it's a bit better, not much though. I thought maybe tires need balancing but, there's no reason they should've gone unbalanced from the last time they were. Any ideas??

Could be a number of things, bent wheel, balancing, alignment may have caused tires to wear uneven,. I say take it to a shop and get it rebalanced. If that doesnt help start inspecting everything to eliminate them as being the cause. Seems like a lot of maximas have this problem.

i had the shaking at about 70mph, too. i discovered that i had a warped rotor. by the time i finally got a clue, it could be heard loudly upon braking. by that tiime it was too late. it had gotten bad enough to destroy the bearings and contact surfaces of all axle components and everything. i even had to replace the spindle/knuckle as the vibration threw it out of "true." how this happened i can only deduce that it was from the night that i hit a pothole really hard. added to the problem was that my car is lowered and has lo-pro tires. so it hit the hole like a rock. i payed for that in spades. maybe you hit something and you just cannot remember, as we run over lots of things all of the time.

hmmm... this happened to my friend's jeep last year... the cause was heat warped brake disks... had the exact same symptoms as you and did not notice anything during breaking... check your disks...!

drive it till the wheels fall off and shut up about all those little things
only thing that was designed to last is VQ motor .
mine vibrates at 75mph - i will leave it - keeps me from speeding and wastin $$$ on tickets.

Get your wheels balanced with a Hunter GSP9700 machine. This website tells about the machine and has a locator so you can find a shop in your area that has one:

I had bought that $40 lifetime balance and rotation at Discount Tire and my car was still shakin between 65-80. I took it to different places they would say alignment, but they didnt have an adapter for my 18's. So I took it to this place Car RX on Huebner Rd and they said oh its your shocks/struts. I said well do the alignment anyways. Only one of my wheels was slightly out of alignment. So one day I was over by Marbach Rd and took my max to the Discount Tire there. They did my alignment and I have zero shakes. I couldnt believe that one Discount Tire would do a cr@p job and another would do it right. Anybody in San Antonio I would say take your Max to the Discount Tire on Marbach and 410.
