Adding breather filters

I remember seeing an org member's picture and got this idea. Instead of having the rubber hose go from the valve cover vent to the resonator box, he installed a small breather filter. Can this be done to the IAC valve as well? What about the tiny hose (I think its the fuel system vent hose)? If this can be done then this would totally eliminate the need for a midpipe and allow the use of just a straight pipe inplace of it. Not sure if this will yield to any performance gains or not but I'm simply looking for a way cheaper alternative than buying a midpipe or going thru the hassles of fabricating one using Home Depot parts.

Any ideas?

No, it cannot be done with the IACV.

That is the hose that allows air to bypass the closed throttle plate to regulate idle speed.
