Strange whirring sound in reverse in snow.....
WE got some snow here in CO last night and today, and twice I got stuck on the gutter lip getting into my driveway from the ice, and twice when putting it in reverse the tires spun and I got a whirring noise from what seemed to be the right front tire. Is this normal in reverse in snow? I never noticed it last season at all, or, is this something internal and bad. On a side note, the car seems to be fine otherwise.....100 mile round trip to Denver and back tonight and things were fine. What could this be???
BTW, I have a 5spd! +++EDIT++

Well, if you have a whirl type noise in reverse, thats perfectly normal for 5speed anything. Most even have that whirl type noise in first (i do, as does my other max buddy). Its when it spreads to your other gears that it becomes a concern...

I know the whirring sound you guys speak of, the normal sound, but this is faster and more hi pitched. Maybe it was because I was spinning the tires on the snow instead. Guess I will just keep an eye on it. thanks guys.

Definately, because if your spinning while going in reverse because of snow, you will be hitting higher RPMs. The whirring noise gets higher pitched as the RPMs climb in reverse, so that may be your answer...
