clutch doesnt grip at fast high rpm shifts

i got a new tranny and clutch a while ago, and i put about 1600 miles on it. it feels strong, it works perfectly, except when i make a fast shift at high revs. like a 1-2 shift at the redline it doesnt grip right away. does this mean it just has to break in more? i heard somewhere that if i replace the fluid or flush the tranny, that can help, is that true?

thanks.

i have an OEM clutch from nissan.

when i broke it in i did slow shifts, never pushed the gas pedal in more than half way, and i drove like a normal person.

I hope it is an OEM, not the Key Value. When you asked the dealer for the clutch, did it come all in one box?

mine cost 170 for the kit, i'm not sure if I got the key value or not. I am getting an Exedy soon, the clutch is horrible, very soft engagments at higher RPM's I have the same problem you do. Mines about 7 months old. Do yourself a favor and get an Exedy strage 1

Are you really sure? High rpm slippage, especially in the higher gears is the #1 sign of the Key Value clutch.

The OEM clutch can only be bought in seperate parts and costs roughly $290 total which would make a OEM clutch job at a Nissan dealer ~$700-800. According to my Nissan service department, they only stock the Key Value clutch and the OEM clutch is a special order. The guy I deal has been working there for 15 years and can't remember the last time a customer actually special ordered the OEM clutch. The only time they use true OEM clutch components is for warranty work. He's not surprised that the Key Value clutch slips because he says it doesn't look or feel near as beefy.

Hmm. I bought my car with 79K on it, and I'm guessing that mine probably has a Key Value kit in it. I notice slippage at high RPM shifts, but it still grabs alright with extremely minor slipping when I dump the clutch in first. I bet thats what I got. Oh well.

as i understand it, if you start ripping it apart right out of the shop, they clutch just becomes useless. it will slip when you flore it, and never work right.

Hell. I really don't know. I may be on the original clutch. Just not sure. I bought the car at 79K. I have no idea about the car prior to then.

well guess what, i have the key value one. i could have sworn i got the OEM one but it turns out that i did not. in this situation, what can i do? in the key value clutch, what is it that makes it not grip at high rpms? is it the actual disk? can i just buy a clutch disk and put it in? or is my best bet to just buy an OEM or ACT or Exedy? thanks.
